Other Racers have said it as well or in a round about way. When will something be done or will it be status quo as long as the fans are coming. I opted for the Big E.
As Far as someone coming from 21st to 4th doesn't make the track good or bad it is a combination of setup, driver & the stars aligning.
It's not the first time and it won't be the last. The success or not will be if he can keep the stands filled.
In the late 90s Either the City or the Insurance forced Staab to have the top of the track cut back 15ft away from the wall at Lawrenceburg due to a weak wall and a area of that wall in front of the stage that had collapsed. Well that took the top four feet of the track off all the way around. Yet with the track in the new flatter slicker configuration we had 35-40 sprints every night. They'd hold a special and someone like Huntley or others would win and say the same thing, It isn't the BURG anymore without the lip on the track
2001 they build new grandstands concessions, restrooms. Still getting 35 cars a night for regular shows. By 2004 there were nights there wasn't 300 fans in the stands.and I heard people while walking out. Same show as last week. Catfish track, slow and boring.
It wasn't like there were a ton of people on message boards bashing tracks, There were no message boards. A few chatrooms here and there but the net was trivial at best.
Someone said to me in the other thread in response to my statement that it used to be a hammer down track That doesn't always make for good racing either. I'll agree with that. Not always but as long as it's not completely one groove that can be blocked. It's exciting.
But when you see Joe Gaerte or Charlie Fisher running as hard as they can on the cushion that is five feet from the wall and Dale Blaney stuffs his car over the cushion, foot on the floor between those guys and the wall to pass. THAT IS JUST OMG BREATHTAKING. That and the slide for life that has now become a slow motion ballet are the house that earl built.
