Did USAC allow the sprint cars to run on Goodyears during the Eastern swing?

Chris Economacki's column this week had this:

Is he wrong about this?

Isn't USAC's rule DT-3 on RR and everything else is open?

Lucas, Chris Bonneau & I ran the LR's. The DT-3 Hoosier is required on the RR. Chris Economaki saw ours at Grandview & commented on them while hanging by our trailer. We had 93", 95" and 97" LRs that came in 050 or 100 compounds. We ran mostly 95" 050 or 97" 100, worked great.
