How? There's no reason why I can't speak my opinion, especially on a highly debated subject, where many people agree with myself.

Sprint car racing is where the REAL Drivers are at. Still going fast as ever without someone trying to change all the rules. :checkered:
You don't understand why they didn't let Bruno Junqueira (I believe it was him) continue to race until they bolted on a mirror? Sir, they go 230mph at Indy...mirrors are kind of a good idea for safety.

The IRl is tons more exciteing than nascar. what the heck was that race sunday? BOREING. as far as the IRL, things are turning around. I thought there were more fans at texas this year than in the past. Give it some time IRL is gaining steam. Crazy thought, but wouldn't it be interesting if Humpy Wheeler joined the IRL group

Nobody asked me but........it's all a matter of personal preference, I guess. For me, and I don't presume to speak for anyone else, the IRL offers cars I hate (euro formula) and people I've never heard of (for the most part). I've always been more into the personalities than the technology of racing. Thus, given the choice of watching Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne, Ryan Newman, J.J. Yeley, Mike Bliss and recently Bryan Clauson, Josh Wise, and all the others I've enjoyed following in my genre' of choice (sprint cars & midgets) or the IRL folks (whoever they are) I'll tune in to NASCAR. It's got nothing to do with jingoism. I just have never been one of the 20 or 30 people :wink who attend the sporty car events where most Indy car drivers completed their apprenticeships. Much of IRL racing seems (to me) to be an exercise of riding around at "ludicrous speed" (Spaceballs, anyone?), foot firmly planted on the floor, never driving it in a little deeper, or getting back on it a little sooner, and needing the brake only for pit stops. Requires incredible bravery, but greatly reduces the driver element in the equation for winning.

Again, that's just me. I know folks, especially those with engineering backgrounds, who have orgasms just talking about aero, paddle shifters, and all that other techno stuff. I guess it just wouldn't be good if we all liked the same thing.** :checkered:

I love my Indy cars. I have since 1980 and I will never stop loving it. HOWEVER..... I have a few opinions on what the sport should do.

First..... eliminate mandatory wing angles. This is a total load of crap. What does this do? In theory it makes everyone the same speed. But in reality all it does is allow the big buck teams that can spend millions in the wind tunnel to gain that 2 or 3 mph advantage over the competition. This crap of NEGATIVE rear wing angles at indo to find speed is ridiculous. Maybe one of you engineering grads can weigh in on this aspect.... but it seems to me a negative rear wing angle creats lift in the rear..... so when this car spins it becomes POSITIVE.... meaning the rear plants and does not spin anymore and you back it into the wall. Remember the slew of back injuries? ELIMINATE MANDATORY WING ANGLES!

Second..... this one will stir the pot..... ELIMINATE GROUND EFFECTS! Flat-bottoms, baby! NOW the DRIVER is back in control of the car... not pedal flat on the floor relying on the millions spent in the tunnel tweaking the cars. This will allow ALL teams..... big, small or indifferent.... an opportunity to win. Your driver may be in mediocre equipment but with a good setup and a nerve check, your driver has a shot.

You do this and it would put the Indy cars back in the hands of the drivers.... and more people have a shot. As it it now unless you are Penske/Ganassi/AGR you are screwed.

Mike, I'm guessing you haven't met the fine folks at Budweiser. Aero largely responsible for bonuses for all employees. :wink

why are the indy lights so competive? Very good raceing in that class, so of that lack of technology needs to move over to the big class
