I am (68) and I do (remember your Dad). Remember him quite well actually, as one of the top contenders at Lawrenceburg each week. As others here have stated, he was a heck of a :Steer.

Welcome to the board. You'll enjoy your time here. :checkered:

I am not quite as "OLD":O: as some of these other guys so I don't remember your dad. However, glad you have found the IOW board and look forward to hearing from you down the road.

Welcome to the board! I remember your dad quite well. He was virtually unbeatable in the yellow #22 at Haubstadt. I remember the night he set an altitude record in the first turn after running over another cars front end (Cliff Cockrum, I believe). The yellow #22 came in contact with a light pole outside of the track, and, if I remember correctly, the fuel injection system was damaged on the big block Chevy engine.

That might have been the night that my Dad was telling me about recently. He said that the first 6 or 8 races when it was new they could not get that car to hook up. He would spin the tires off the corner when the track became slick during the feature and the best he could do was 6th or 7th place. He said one night he flipped at Haubstadt over the guardrail. It bent the chassis (tweaked it a little) after that the car never had a problem hooking up again.

Someone mentioned the white #2, aka: "the gold deuce" White with a black and gold #2. He won some features in it but not many in the 4 years or so he drove it. The last car he drove was the red #14 owned by John McDaniel from Carbondale,IL. It was a J&J one of the first chassis' they built. He won in it a lot over 2 years including the track championship at Paragon and Haubstadt back to back. Then he just quit racing at 42.

I asked him about Eldora, he said he won one feature there (late 60's) driving for Karl Kinser so it would have been the #22. Only raced there about 10-12 times. The only blue car he drove was a #43 and that was when he ran some USAC races. He said the only USAC race he won was Terre Haute.
