Westerfeld Dominates BOSS Run at the Burg

From time to time, in the stick and ball sports world, you will hear the term "blowout". Perhaps its a 42-0 football route. Maybe it's a baseball final of 10-0. In horse racing it's a win of 15 lengths or more. Last night at Lawrenceburg Speedway, The "Guilford Gasser" Shawn Westerfeld of Guilford, Indiana, showed the fans on hand the dirt track racing version of a "blowout". He led every lap of the second heat race, winning by a very large margin. Through a little luck of the draw ( and a kid from the stands), he drew the coveted "one" pill for the feature redraw. From there, he would lead all 25 laps of the non stop A-Main, lapping up to 8th place and winning by over a straightaway.

Thirty-one sprint cars signed in to do battle in the Rick's Truck & Equipment BOSS race at Lawrenceburg Speedway. For the second consecutive night, a tour regular got upside down in hot laps. This time it was Riley VanHise who got into the turn 4 wall and flipped. Thankfully VanHise was okay and repairs were made in time to start the B-Main. The heat races were won by Jarrett Andretti, Westerfeld, Brandon Spithaler, and Garret Abrams. A stacked B-Main event saw former track champion Joss Moffatt starting in the back row and 3rd in BOSS points Justin Owen also starting deep in the field. In an event that went green to checker for 10 laps, Moffatt was able to charge from 13th to win the B with Owen stealing the final transfer spot off turn 4 to also make the main event.

The 25 lap A-Main was paced to green by Westerfeld and Spithaler with Garret Abrams and Dallas Hewitt in row 2. At the drop of the green flag, Westerfeld waited no time taking command. Abrams and Andretti stayed within reach for a few laps early, but before halfway, Westerfeld was already "running up the score". For the second consecutive night, the professionals of the BOSS tour reeled off 25 non stop laps in a little over 6 minutes! With Westerfeld checked out, all eyes were on B-Main winner Moffatt who was on the charge from 17th starting position up to finish 6th! With some cautions, he may have been the only car to have anything for the #89 of Westerfeld. At the finish it was Abrams nailing down the runner-up spot over Andretti, Hewitt and Cooper Clouse with a great run from 11th to complete the top 5. Completing the top 10 were Moffatt, Logan Hupp, Michael Fischesser, Tony Main and Cody Gardner.

Several neat storylines from last night as "Lightning" Logan Hupp returned to the cockpit of the family #9H last night. Cody Gardner debuted a new race car while bringing back a little family tradition. Cody is now sporting the number his father and grandfather both ran at Lawrenceburg, the #9. The night also saw the best in the BOSS behind the scenes action with several teams and drivers pitching in to help race teams in trouble with mechanical issues or damage!

The BOSS tour now takes a few weekends off before a busy 7 races in the month of July. Next up is the doubleheader of Lernerville Speedway and Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on July 1-2. Watch for hotel specials to be announced Monday. Race fans are also encouraged to share in the special hotel rate and you may see many of the teams in the hotel parking lot preparing for another epic dirt track battle!

Was glad to see Van Hise get back out for the consi. I didn't know they took the tank off,Thought it came off in the flip. Told dad his night was done as one, carrying extra tanks is rare, two even if you do, Installing a bladder, mounts, pickups and cap are a pain in the "REAR" Pardon pun.

Seen a monkey fly off Gardners back in hot laps, Good thing too as his last few visit's haven't been kind.

Great to see former Track Champ Logan Hupp running and running well!

Abrams, Keep plugging, Your there, It will happen when you least expect it too!

Missed seeing former track champ Mike Miller.
Other former champs, Moffatt who was passing cars like crazy.
Track and Boss Champ Westerfeld, Who I think is still running the cush as he could have done it all night, I think on a rail is the correct term.

Andretti, Who I honestly though would be the guy to beat, Was just never able to push forward, Yet didn't give a inch.

Cooper Clouse, Who I appologize for calling "CLAUSE" I Knew his name, Must have been thinking Christmas................

Dallas Hewitt, Always a show within a show. Just as his uncle was.

Fischesser, Good to see him get going good!

See, It was a much better night than I though. Just wasn't feeling good and little things were wearing on me, None of it was the sprint show. Consi and feature were caution free and I think there might have been at most, two cautions all night in the 31 car sprint field.

Lernerville and PPMS? I love Terre Haute and PPMS is even bigger.
Sounds Tempting

Mike was in a altercation at The Field also as Toby Alfrey started outside front row & promptly spun in front of the entire field. With everyone taking evasive action Mike was involved but the Orange 17 of Kevin Myers took the worst of it going over & finished the rest of the night.
