Advice needed for summer racing trip

Hello everyone,

I'm looking at two options for a summer racing trip. I know I can't go wrong no matter which one I choose, but I'd like to hear some thoughts from you folks. I'm looking at driving up from Louisiana with my dog in my small travel trailer. I'm thinking of either doing the last four days of Indiana Sprint Week in July or the Kokomo Smackdown in August. I've been to Kokomo before (not for Smackdown) and really loved the racing; I have not been to any of the tracks for the last four events of sprint week. What do y'all think?

Thanks,

Jerry

The Smackdown is hard to beat! Plus it's 4 days this year!
What a hard decision!! Good luck and have fun what ever you decide!!

I'd go for the last 4 days of sprint week so you can experience new tracks, like you said you can't go wrong either way!

In this case, I would probably take advantage of the opportunity to add 4 more tracks to my list of tracks visited. Also this leaves you with enough time to find some way to make it back for the Smack Down. You can't go wrong with either choice. Enjoy the trip.

It's a true coin toss, you can't lose either way; last 4 nights of Sprint Week you get a sampler of the longest track of the bunch, one of the shortest and a couple of in-betweeners, all quality speedplants. Smackdown is a 4-day overload at the home of the best non-wing dirt track sprint car racing. Ever. And I used to go to Ascot...

I'm in the same boat playing with those event and trying to pick one over the other. I'm kind of leaning a bit toward the last 4 days of Sprint Week. I've been coming out to Indiana for years and everyone I've talked to keeps telling me I've got to get Haubstadt for a race. This might be the year.

But like everyone else is saying you really can't go wrong either way to choose.

Since you've already been to Kokomo, check out the other tracks. To me there is something special about a big half mile. Terre Haute fills the bill. Tradition, speed, it's a nice experience.

Lincoln Park Speedway is a beautiful track sitting in the holler below the hillside seating, Whoever designed the grandstand there should win a medal as you can take your lawn chair in and sit between the benches easily. Can bring a cooler in etc. Racing's ususally pretty good and you can camp or get the same room for both Weds and Thurs as Terre Haute is only about thirty miles away.

Terre Haute, You never been there, You have to see it to believe it. Do yourself a favor, Walk down to the infield in turns one and two for hotlaps then out to the stands for qualifying and the race. You can also bring in a cooler here. At times Terre Haute racing is a combo of terror and exhilaration! Long straights and mainly flat turns, If it widens out, You'll see cars running on the wall as well as the inside guardrail and in the corners thats as much as fifty feet apart and they come down the straight and have to correct due to the stagger. Love this track! Hope you do too. Sit up in the bleachers out of four and bring a set of binoculars.

Bloomington, Also a track sitting bellow hillside seating beautiful red clay, decent concessions but you can bring a cooler, Racing can be great and I hope it is, I only got that luxury on about three of my last ten visits.

Tri State, Do yourself a favor and buy the reserved on the back straight. The track is kept in impeccable condition and every inch of it is used. I've only been twice but it's a great track. This track is also in the SW of the state, Closest for your trip home.

Id choose the four for the reasons listed above. Kokomo is a beast of a track but I love all the options we have up here. The racing can be great at any of them.

Have fun! No matter which you choose.

If I was coming up from Louisiana to watch some racing, a good long haul by the way, I would choose the last four races for Indiana Sprint Week. Not so much that it might be more "adventurous" than three nights at the great Kokomo Speedway, but if the weather turns bad, you might have a good option for Plan B and that is to head East to Ohio for the Brady Doty Classic and the Kings Royal weekend.

It's always good to have Plan B. Hate to see a fan go a long way and get washed out.
