Are both Jimmy and Eric holding their shields shut at the start of the crash? It apperars that both of their instincts were to let go of the wheel and grab the helmet keeping the shoelds down.

I've never seen a guys first instinct being to do that.

I always heard storys that before arm restaints guys when going into a hard crash would tuck in their arms to prevent them from flopping around outside of the car. If you look at the pictures of the Stan Fox crash at Indy you can see him in that position...............this was my first thought here

I think they each thought the crash was over, started to open their shields then some more pile in from the rear.

As fast as this crash happened, I don't think there was time for them to think it was over... Hell, I didn't realize there were 5-6 cars involved and it started right in front of me. :O:

the other thing is you take you hands off the wheel before hitting the wall, so you don't brake your arm. Everyone tenses up some before when they are crashing, take you hands off the wheel so that you don't try to hold onto it when it makes its vilolant turn. You see this happen alot in the stock car classes with rookies. Once you take your hands off they have to go some where.

But I like what my dad said, Mccune and steel are holding there heads saying NOT AGAIN. Eric gordon is saying, damn it finally caught up with me.

Did anyone get a picture of heavron setting on top of his car in the pitts. Thats the face of a man not ready to give up.

I asked Eric about it, and yes, it's to keep the hands away from the steering wheel. He said that when you're convinced you can't save it and you know you're gonna hit, tuck in the elbows and get the hands clear of the wheel. I'd have to say that those pics are the best I've ever seen that captured this. I know I've never seen two guys doing it simultaneously. Consoli, Merritt,D.O, and Mills, among others, are artists for sure.:respect:
