When the K&L Ready Mix NRA Sprint Invaders rolls into the sleepy small town of Montpelier, Indiana the events will feature a tremendous battle drawing Ohio’s finest winged sprint car drivers to the Indiana 1/4 mile bullring. Before the Border Wars event hit the track during the 2014 season, it had been a 10 year absence of winged sprint car racing at the 113 year old east central Indiana racing facility. Fans of MMS and the K&L Ready Mix NRA Sprint Invaders will have a much shorter wait for the return of winged sprint cars with third iteration of the Border Wars event, co hosted with the Limaland Speedway, on Saturday, May 14th. The NRA Invaders will then return for a second appearance at the Montpelier Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 30th in an event that will serve as one of the last points event for the coveted NRA points championship.

The 2015 iteration of the Border Wars saw a fast paced battle with Ottoville Ohio’s, Jared Horstman besting the 24 car field picking up the feature win over Dustin Daggett, Max Stambaugh, Hud Horton, and Randy Hannagan. Horstman’s victory proved crucial as it served as the tie-breaker for the NRA championship. The second 2015 appearance by the NRA Sprint Invaders saw Ontario, Canada’s. Mitch Brown, land in victory lane during his first ever visit to the Montpelier Motor Speedway. Horton, Devon Dobie, Shawn Dancer, and Kyle Sauder rounded out the top 5. Only Horton was able to post top 5 finishes on both visits to MMS with 9 different drivers landing in the top 5 in 2015 on two races. Three appearances by the NRA Sprint Invaders have netted three different winners with Greg Wilson, Horstman, and Brown scoring Montpelier victories.

The Montpelier Motor Speedway, which began racing in 1903 and hosted its first automobile race in 1915, is one of America’s oldest remaining racing facilities. While the east central Indiana ¼ mile clay oval has a historic past, the facility has seen many major modern upgrades the past four seasons including new restrooms and bleachers along with the addition of many safety features including a new catch fence and front stretch wall. The Montpelier Motor Speedway commonly competes weekly on Saturday Nights with its popular Modified and Stock Car divisions and is also the host to the popular Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget series.

Unfortunately, you are correct. I am not sure who was at Lima but my guess would be a couple of the 19 might head north as well.
