Steve Enslow, USAC's 1982 Silver Crown Car Owner Champion, passed away Friday in New Orleans at the age of 71. Originally based in Huntington, W.V., Enslow campaigned his Performance Research/DJ Construction #9 from 1981-1983, racking up an impressive 14 "top-10" finishes with driver Mark Alderson. Their best finish was a third place in the 1983 Hoosier Hundred in Indianapolis.
knew steve practically all my life. he was a friend of the family. steve started up at the atomic speedway in the late 60's or early 70's. great guy and always had a smile on his face. I was about 5-6 years old and just got a new bike up at lima, oh. well gramps and steve put it together and the pits were in the infield then. next thing I knew steve was riding my bike all over the infield (and waiving to me) and then dick gaines took it for a spin...they had me mad as hell before hot laps even started.... just had talked to steve about 6 weeks ago. RIP STEVE!!!

I knew Steve & his wife Marilyn from a totally different scene, zydeco dancing in Louisiana (lots cheaper than racing!) Then he mentioned that they used to own a sprint car, I had someone to discuss racing with at our dances.
Great guy, knew how to have fun!... RIP
RIP Steve. I was fortunate enough to grow up around his sprint car and silver crown efforts. Being involved as a snot nosed kid, while Mark, Glen, Carl, Steve and Dad raced and worked on the cars, was a priceless experience. Some of the best times of my life. Thanks Steve Enslow for making that possible, God bless you
