I know Plymouth is running Wing 602 Crate Engine Sprints. But was wondering what others think about these cars that run in the Northeast .. Self-Starting Wingless 602 Sprints
Video - Could it work here in the Midwest?

2024 Season: Race 1 - April 20th Brownstown (Crate LM). Unlike many I don't discriminate on what racing I choose to watch.

I wonder how they accomplish the self start? Would it compromise cockpit space?

I don't want to be negative, But we got to many sprint car classes. I remember when there was one, you showed up and raced. Then somebody didn't win so they started a 360 it would be cheaper, they didn't win so they started a 305 class it would be cheaper. Well let me tell you its not cheap. Off of my soap box. Sometimes I wish we would go back to 1976 and just show up and race. Have a great day.

The beauty of non wing racing is that it is still pretty much that way. Run Whatcha Brung with the BOSS series and we have had features won by a 305 (Fremont) and a 360 (Mercer) and we don't even have that imaginary rule that SUPPOSEDLY limits cars to 410.

Engines aren't the problem in sprint car racing. The wings are.

The Super Sports have been running self starting cars in PA. for a long time and do some wingless racing too. They are running wingless at Path Valley on a fairly regular basis now.

The Super Sportsman chassis is one all to it's self ...looks like a sprint car but's a little different . Not a regular sprint chassis .
The new class they have started at New Egypt Speedway and I think a track in New York, uses regular sprint chassis .
Uses the 602 crate motor sealed by the track and a carburetor , for the driveline it uses a very short modified trans and bellhousing .
There are pictures on their website and it doesn't look too bad from what I see .......unless you have size 15 feet that is .........

It was the aluminum engines that started the cost sky rocketing not the wings.

Yeah yeah, Then it was the CNC heads, Then it was the Mopars, Then the Toyotas.

Build you something reliable and race at the track you can be competitive at. Thats the only way to control. YOUR COST. not the cost of racing, There is a level for every budget without adding more UNIQUE classes nobody else can join. Its why you got all these ten car classes that rarely last longer than a year or two.

Was walking through the pits once on a Pa. excursion that included Silver Spring and one of the super sportsman started up right beside me when I wasn't expecting it. Just about peed myself.

Incite your heart to see beyond the view.
