I had an extended conversation with the new Montpelier promoter on May 3rd regarding the possiblity of scheduling open competition races at Montpelier Speedway. He is all for the idea!!! An open date on a Saturday night would be the key to a successful promotion for starters. July 5th is an open date with no USAC or POWRi races scheduled. I have not contacted the promoter about that possible date but it certainly would be an ideal time for the midgets to make an appearance at that track. I'm not a part of the promotion but I did tell him that I would be willing to work with him in getting something started. We would need a least 20 cars to show for an event. A successful event would certainly lead to more dates. If midget racing is to make a comeback (other than midget week) in Indiana, midget teams need to come out of the garages and help revive regional races.

Here is a promoter that will give it a shot, we have one midget owner that is going to help get things started. The big question is how many more are willing to bring this deal out in front of what I am sure would be a packed house. After talking to people that were at Montpelier Saturday I have heard nothing negative said about the way things were run. How many race track's have you been to that had the concessions at half price when the features rolled around? We need to support the promoters that support the racers.

To get the ball rolling, I will contact the promoter, Tim Tygart, and see what the possibilities are for the midgets . Again, July 5th looks like a great date. We need a pool of 25-30 potential midget teams to make this work. I will need a list of teams that are willing to make this show. The next step is to get the list compiled. I will need this info completed within the next few days to give time to the promoter to get his ducks in order if this is to happen. He has opened the door for this to happen, now it's up to the midget teams to support a race there. If you know or have contact with a midget team, please have them e-mail me if they are interested. If you have a midget team and are reading this thread, please send your e-mail address to me so that I can compile a list of interested teams and present it to the promoter. Let's make this happen for the betterment of midget racing in Indiana.
