Fantastic event. Rico and BC ran some of the hardest and cleanest laps that I have ever seen. Tons of racing through every heat and qualifier with a star studded field of who's who in open wheel racing. This is a event that will always be on my schedule. Plus the icing on the cake is providing for future of Charlie Dean. Thanks to Great Clips and all who make this awesome event happen .
We Illini dirt track open wheel fans are very proud that The Land O' Lincoln & crooked politicians hosts an event of the magnitude of The Jason Leffler Memorial. The racing at this years' JLM far exceeded the hopes and expectations of even the most critical open wheel racing fan.
However, I'm concerned about just a couple of things. The first is partially for selfish reasons. My chosen profession dictates that on an average year that I'm going to be way too busy to attend an October running of the JLM so one could accurately suggest I have an ax to grind and I freely own up to my selfishness since this event is now in the "do not miss" category. Due to this years' perfect timing of Mother Nature we were able to attend. This year was such a success that we're all feeling the afterglow of a show for the ages, and this event will only get more popular and better attended and it appears it will be around for a long time to come. That said, the law of averages dictates that late October weather will not be so cooperative and there is a better than even chance the weather will be an issue year in and year out.
The other issue is the lack of aisle way's in the grandstands. The lack of aisles makes for a torturous process of going for food or making ones way to the facilities as well as those who we have to crawl over to get to the restroom facilities or the concession stand. I'm sure this will be addressed and solved since this event is solidly on the midget racing landscape for the foreseeable future and it appears every effort is being made to consider the needs of both the competitors and the spectators.
After everything is said and done the bottom line is that the 2015 JLM was a hell of a show. One we'll be talking about for years.
Silver Crown Championship Dirt Cars properly driven on a one mile dirt track are classic poetry in motion. Using that analogy, Jack Hewitt is one of the greatest poets of all time.
