![]() Midgets Return To Montpelier For Memorial Day Weekend Saturday, May 23 The Montpelier Motor Speedway Midgets will return for round #2 this Saturday Night, May 23rd with a near perfect forecast for the Memorial Day Weekend event. The Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget series season opener found a photo finish between Shane Hollingsworth and Chett Gerhke with transponder data declaring Gehrke as the winner. For the Oklahoma native, it was his first career Montpelier feature win at the 112 year old racing facility. The May 23rd Midget race will have major implications on the 2015 series championship chase as all top 10 competitors and Rookie of the Year candidates are within a handful of points of each other. The Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget series is now in its 4th season and features an open tire rule (any compound and brand) and engine rule (National – Esslinger, Gaerte, Fontana, Stanton, etc.., Focus/Honda, Mini-Sprint). The Montpelier Motor Speedway, which began racing in 1903 and hosted its first automobile race in 1915, is one of America’s oldest remaining racing facilities. Sprint car racing first came to Montpelier in the late 1940’s in the form of “Big Cars”. While the east central Indiana ¼ mile clay oval has a historic past, the facility has seen many major modern upgrades the past four seasons including new restrooms and bleachers along with the addition of many safety features such as a new catch fence system along with a new front stretch wall, lighting system, and runoff area. The Montpelier Motor Speedway commonly competes weekly on Saturday Nights with its popular Modified and Stock Car divisions, and is also the host to the popular Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget series. Note: The May 9th Midget event was rained out before hot laps and all wristbands and general admission tickets can be applied to this event or a future event. General Admission will be $12 with Kids (12 and Under) – FREE!
