Lawrenceburg Ramblings (This is a bit long – will post in 3 parts to make each one smaller) Part 1 As a fan, having been to the track twice during construction, and viewing all the great pictures that have been posted of the track remake, I have numerous comments / questions. They are presented in no particular order… I think it is great to have a new track – a great investment by the city of Lawrenceburg, so do not take these comments as negative, just areas of interest and concern that I have identified. LIGHTS Apparently there is a significant investment in Musco lights (the best). Heard on World of Outlaws Friday night that Williams Grove had first night for their new Musco, and the race was being recorded for later broadcast by SPEED. Does anyone know how the quantity of lighting at Burg compares to Williams Grove? Am I to assume that Lawrenceburg will be looking to do national telecasts? Other than that, seems like overkill on lighting. Remember the old USAC Thursday Night Thunder. Wouldn’t it be great to record all the Saturday Shows and nationally televise on the following Thursday night? Just wonder if this is the direction that the city is going with the track. Also, those light poles look quite small in diameter – will they be protected from stray racers? Is there any risk of them coming down if hit by a racer? TRACK EXIT I agree with the previous postings of a concern about the configuration of the track exit for the racers. I remember one time at, I think it was the LM Summernationals; it was a month long series for points. What I remember, in the feature, about half way thru, most of the cars left the track half way thru, after about the 10th position (assume to save car for the next night). Well, how could LM, or any other racer, leave the new Lawrenceburg as racing speed (or even half speed) with the exit as configured? Also, being at the end of the back stretch, I would assume that the racers that want to run high thru the corners will want to line up on the outside of the back stretch. INFIELD I believe that I read a long time ago that the infield is to be grass and landscaped. Then another time I have read a helipad in the infield. If both of these are true, Will cars be able to pull into infield during the race? Is there to be any inner wall (Armco or concrete) for the track? |
