By my count 37 some people say 38 1000cc Midgets came out to race on a Friday night at the Historic Bloomington Speedway and pay homage to the retiring "king of the Outlaws", Steve Kinser.

I do mean 1000cc Midgets also, and not Mini Sprints Or Lightning Sprints or whatever. Were one to watch a video of the races without knowledge of what was on the track the response would be "Those are Midgets" racing out there. Using our On Board Data Acquisition system, we by any stretch of the imagination the fastest 1000cc car on the track last night were turning lap times in the 13 second to high 12's range and reaching speeds in the low 90's MPH.

I would guess racing without wings was a new experience for several of the racers last night. I am sure 4 or 5 racers will now be able to explain the difference between wing and non wing racing as far as driving the car and what it feel like when flipping down the race track without the "Crush Proof" box over their head.

I have no Idea where many of the racers last night came from, they just showed up to race and did one heck of a job. Maybe those racers reading IOW can chime in and introduce them selves and give their impression of racing non wing at Bloomington.

I really can't say what was the reason for a super car count. Was it?

1. Racing at the Historic Bloomington Speedway

2. Paying their respects to Steve Kinser a Super Hero in Open Wheel Racing.

3. The chance to race without Wings.

4. Some of all the above.

Whatever the reason, Track owners in Southern Indiana and at other tracks around the country should take note, that 1000cc Midgets or my newer favorite and more inclusive name of "Sportsman Midget". can produce a super car count and some very good racing for their fans.

Thanks go out to the Indiana Race Parts and Andy Bradley and the MMSA crew for giving the "Sportsman Midgets" a chance to show off their stuff in front of 1000's of race fans.

Yeh>>> I know I am suppose to call them "LIGHTNING SPRINTS" I just can't seem to do that.

Racing at Bloomington and with the Outlaws. MMSA would have had large CC with wings also. Any LIGHTNING SPRINT show that I have raced at where WE (LIGHTNING SPRINTS) are a support class for WOo it has been a larger than normal CC.

Andy Bradley with Drew Dorsett all over his rear bumper, that is as far back as I got I was too busy trying to keep Andy's dad from having a heart attack. MMSA face book might have more info.

Scotty pulled into the infield with a supposedly lost chain as per the announcer. Andy was the one that took the win Friday night. Also Jay posted the full results on the Facebook page Saturday or yesterday, I don't remember which day it was.

Awesome to see such a great turnout for MMSA. That's the second time they have topped 30 1000cc cars this season. I agree that the WOO definitely helps boost the car count. MMSA, ILSS, & MALS have all had at least 30 1000cc cars for our WOO shows & that's great exposure for all our clubs. Looks like things are on the up and up for this class. I know a couple of new cars are already coming together for our club here in IL.

RickyBobby, I'm one of those hoping to have a car for next year. Started a carpet cleaning company this year, so didn't have the funds this year. My plans are to race with the MMSA and a few Illini series races.
