11 cars at "The Night Before the 500"! ....This is sad!!! This is the work of the "money leach"...as I have said for the last 4 years....he will suck all the money out and run off to Detroit having destroyed USAC!!

I saw an astute response to a thread about this same topic elsewhere on IOW. I felt it should appear in this thread, too.

Usually when someone starts the old "I remember back when.........." stuff, it is a reference to events of way more than 3 or 4 or 5 years ago.

Shocking that the USAC (pavement) midgets have sunk this far in such a scant few years.

But I do recall the Night Before the 500 midget race being contested on dirt a few times back in those days some of us old farts love to reminisce about.

It was a good sized crowd. Just sad we had to see that race tonight. 10 cars started, only 5 running at the end. Thanks to the drivers and teams who showed up and competed. Obviously, we need to find a way to get more midgets for the pavement USAC shows. It's a tragedy what has happened to this historic race in just a few years. Hope there is another one next year, but I won't be surprised if there isn't. Just sad to see.

Maybe it's time to move it back to dirt.
