Best r1 motor oil

So im new to the lightning sprint thing, just got out of 270 micros did real good in those. Im sure this topic has been beat to death somewhere in the tech forum, 08 Yamaha R1 what do you all recommend for the best motor oil? Ive heard some run Royal Purple others say Brad Penn, what do you all think? And what weight also? Gonna be running alcohol. Thanks in advance Dave

either of those will be fine the brad penn stuff is very good, redline is another good choice.

That's at least a $64 question, I've been running Castrol GTX, 20-50 in my 600 Yamaha, with no issues, and in the previous old Honda, since 1991. I would hate to change at this time, but I've heard that the oil that Yamaha recommends works well also, but it is awfully thin to suit me, and some of the synthetics don't tollerate alcohol too well, some not at all. Now, ya got another couple of thoughts! Look for a lot more. I called Castrol, long ago, and got the scoop from them, after I had called Valvoline, which had been my choice, and I switched, seems Valvoline now has a high dollar racing only oil out, and I know a few that use it, but I wasn't sold on it. if you look on the air box, it says 20w-50 oil. i've used valvoline vr1 for years without any issues.

Motul Ester Blend... Awesome for the tranny feel...

Ask 100 people you'll get 100 different answers. I'm partial due to my involvement, but we've tested nearly every oil that is commonly used, and many times there are things in every oil that you won't like. Valvoline is a good oil, but make sure you get the vr1 with zinc, many times the oil on the shelf isn't the stuff you want in a racecar.

Other companies use high doses of zinc and other additives, but the particle size is so huge you'll filter the good stuff out in no time.

TJ Racing oil was built with reliability in mind, made for alcohol, and made to work with your bike transmission. We won a ton of races in the 600cc engines along with the larger engines.

I use royal purple 20/50 with no problems. Ive got 10 race nights and never notice and changes due to alcohol like ive seen with other oils of course idk chemically if its done anything

i use yamalube 20-40. no problems yet, almost 16,000 miles.
