One day shows with drivers coming from all directions.... Time trails. Multi day shows time trial first nite. Local shows absolutely no time trials. Exception to every rule, Knoxville etc with 100+ is an example.

Another reason to not line up by pill draw is there are some racers that for various reasons have no business starting at the front. This only ends up in destroyed race cars.
For a weekly show if you don't want qualifying use the USAC system using points averages in place of qualifying times and find a sponsor for a hard charger award for the most total cars passed in the night (heats and Main only) to give someone new coming in something to shoot for. This would also let drivers show they are improving as their starting position improves. Be worth it just to see their reaction the first night they make the invert for a heat. |
