I'm guessing they might have 50+. I think they were in the mid 40's for the POWRI show in late April. The racing was really good that night.

Don't know a car count, but as of 1:00pm today (Tuesday) it officially became a Big Show when Pat, Herschel, Marley and Girl rolled into town and set up a temporary home in front of the gate no less than 53 hours before hot laps begin! Welcome to Jacksonville!

What did she do with Jim?

3 of my furry friends.
Marley especially likes jumping up in the chair with me. Girl gets jealous if I pat the other 2 dogs and not her. (You have to be part Octopus to keep all 3 happy at once!) And Hershell...well what a charactor he is. He comes up with some of the funniest facial expressions for a dog.

And Pat is finally taking my advice on where to go for the action. She told me they are going to follow where I go,as I have had pretty good luck this year at finding races that dont get rained out....Well up until the other night!

One car that will be there is the Ebby Bergfield Brandt Midget with Justin Allgaier at the wheel. So great to have Justin back at Jacksonville and 20 miles from the Brandt headquarters so all of the Brandt employees and customers can watch him race. Thanks go to Ebby and everyone that made it happen.

Thomas, Blackhurst ready to tackle POWRi Speed Week's four Midget events in four nights at four tracks in Illinois

Badger co-sanctions Midgets, POWRi Micros run four events in four nights

Tyler Thomas and Jake Blackhurst will be attempting to capitalize on POWRi Racing's inaugural Speed Week, four events in four consecutive nights on tracks in Illinois starting Thursday (June 6) at Jacksonville Speedway, to solidify their contending early-season status in the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series.

Badger will co-sanctioning the Midgets and Speed Week also includes New Zealand's Michael Pickens and Brad Mosen, USAC triple crown winner Jerry Coons Jr. and, at Jacksonville, NASCAR Nationwide regular Justin Allgaier of Riverton, Ill., in a Spike-Esslinger for owner Ebby Bergfield. The POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series is also racing in the four Speed Week events.

After Jacksonville, Speed Week travels to Lincoln Speedway on Friday, Macon Speedway on Saturday and Vermillion County Speedway in Danville on Sunday. The winner's purse at Vermillion County for Midgets will be $3,000 and for Micros $1,000, above the normal POWRi payouts of $2,000 for Midgets and $700 for Micros.

Thomas of Collinsville, Okla., is third with 490 points and Blackhurst of Mapleton, Ill., is fourth with 460. Andrew Felker of Carl Junction, Mo., is the leader with 610 and Zach Daum of Pocahontas, Ill., is second with 520.

Thomas and Blackhurst are 17 years old and in their third season in POWRi Midgets. POWRi's Midgets have run only four events because of rainouts this season and both drivers are ready to tackle the demanding competition and pace of Speed Week.

"I'm really excited about it," Thomas said. "I want to race as much as I possibly can. Getting in a rhythm is probably the key to Midget week. The setups and tracks are all different. I've been fortunate to have been to all the tracks I have and being able to adapt to them really quickly. I've never been to Vermillion County and I'm excited about it because I love going to new tracks."

Thomas finished sixth at Jacksonville on April 26 and second at Macon on May 18. He won at Macon in the next-to-last race of 2012.

"I think we can get our first win this week," Thomas said. "I really enjoy going to Jacksonville, it's my favorite track, and we've had some good runs there. We have a good shot at our first win of the season, maybe two.

"Any POWRi race, the competition is tough with Felker, Daum, Blackhurst and some others. Brad Kuhn is always tough to beat and he's leading the Badger points. I'm sure Speed Week will bring some of the USAC drivers. I'm excited about running against them."

Blackhurst, the POWRi Midget Rookie of the Year in 2011 and fourth in the championship a year ago, finished eighth at Jacksonville and sixth at Macon this season. He was sixth and fourth in the two stops at Jacksonville last season.

"I love Jacksonville," Blackhurst said. "I think we've got a pretty good shot at winning there. We came up to fifth earlier this year and fell back. Macon is one of my favorite tracks, definitely a driver's track. We started towards the back and moved up to sixth and ran out of laps.

"I'd imagine we'll have some pretty big names in Speed Week. Lately, I've been running good, running right there with them. At Macon, I was trying to pass (Bryan) Clauson (who finished fourth) and Jerry Coons (who fell out, finishing 18th) and it makes you more excited and you push hard to pass them. I'm chasing the championship and there isn't any reason we shouldn't finish in the top five every race. I learned a lot last year and I think we'll get a few wins this year. We just need to take the races one at a time."

Pickens enters Speed Week with victories in five straight starts in POWRi Midgets. He won at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis., to open his American tour on May 25. Mosen was fourth.

Jeremy Camp of Blue Mound, Ill., leads the POWRi Micros over Dereck King of Vienna, Ill., 490-410. Camp, the 2010 POWRi Micro champion who has 10 career wins, was fifth at Jacksonville and sixth at Macon earlier this season.

Max Pozsgai of Lincoln, Ill., is third with 400, followed by Joe B. Miller of Millersville, Mo., with 390, and Aaron Andruskevitch of Riverton, Ill., with 380.

POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series top-10 points standings (after four of 32 events: 1. Andrew Felker 610, 2. Zach Daum 520, 3. Tyler Thomas 490, 4. Jake Blackhurst 460, 5. Brad Kuhn 310, 6. Shane Cockrum 300, 7. (tie) Tyler Robbins, Austin Brown 280, 9. Justin Peck 275, 10. Terry Babb 260.

POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series feature winners: Jacksonville, Ill.-Shane Cockrum; Belleville, Ill.-Chris Bell; Macon, Ill.-Brady Bacon; Sun Prairie, Wis.-Michael Pickens.

POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series top-10 points standings (after three of 22 events: 1. Jeremy Camp 490, 2. Dereck King 410, 3. Max Pozsgai 400, 4. Joe B. Miller 390, 5. Aaron Andruskevitch 380, 6. (tie) Cale Thomas, Jacob Patton 330, 8. (tie) Nathan Benson, Jason Harms 320, 10. Jeremy Zumwalt 300.

POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series feature winners: Jacksonville, Ill.-Dereck King; Belleville, Ill.-Joe B. Miller; Macon, Ill.-Dereck King.

Plates seen in the parking lot today: Colorado, California and Indiana.

There's some bearded guy smoking brown cigarettes and his lovely wife with Bryan Claussen stickers all over the California plated motorhome parked next to Pat and Jim. Said he goes by "Bob". Said he was the grandpa of some guy that drove in the Indy 500 once. Our Mayor stopped by to introduce himself to the group and pointing to the "Bob" fella, said: "I'm coming back Thursday to have a few drinks with that guy!"

Come on over to Jacksonville Thursday... It's going to be a blast! We are already having fun over here and Rick King hasn't even rolled into town yet.
