I was at the ncra/usac race at Oaklahoma City when Vogler was in Blackie Fortunes Coors Silver Bullet car and he got together with Oaklahomas Jon Johnson at the start of the feature and put him over the back stretch wall. The police cut the pit fence to get Vogler out of the place after the race to avoid a riot. Ricky Hood, Steve Butler, and Shane Carson were there. This was when OFIXCO was sponsoring cars in the mid 80's.

Bring em down to the Missouri State Fairgrounds 1/2 mile in Sedalia. They're already driving to Pikes Peak and Belleville.

I'm almost surprised Emmett Hahn hasn't already done this. I know he drove one back in the day and they used to run them all the time in Oklahoma with an over head wing. I think either ASCS or Poweri should give it a try. What I'd really like to see is one more dirt champ race on a tacky mile with more than one groove...some day before I die. As soon as I can save enough money, I promise you will see one!

Here's a wild idea. What if they even went on as small a track as a 3/8 mile? It could be run with 150 laps with 2 mandatory pit stops or breaks. It could be promoted as 3, 50 lappers so to speak. I'm suggesting this as here in Ontario we don't have any dirt half miles for cars, just 1/2 mile horse tracks with pea gravel/screenings for a surface. There are several good 3/8 car tracks available though. I believe this could be done and if anyone else doesn't think this is too out there of an idea I'm willing to help get the ball rolling on this idea. I'm thinking of a great track in Ontario, 15 minutes North of Buffalo NY which I've already contacted about this idea and they are willing to look at it for the 2014 schedule. I love Silver Crown dirt racing and would help anyone interested in seeing if we could pull off a non USAC sanctioned event. Absolutely nothing against USAC but from what I read there's a lot of SC cars in barns that could still be competitive on shorter tracks. I'm willing to work on this concept if anyone is serious and is willing to step up to the plate. Even if nothings gets scheduled north of the US/Canada border, count me in to help where I can. Anybody that wants to work on this please contact me. Let's roll!!

Anyone have a guess on the amout of cars that would needed " dusted off" and be ready to race? I know this is all in theory but it really makes me wonder why this hasn't been tried lately. Even in conjunction with a non wing event like a Kiss race seems like a good thought.

Thanks

Here is the link to the Official Entry Blank for Sunday's Silver Crown race at Terre Haute. http://usacracing.com/assets/files/r...13/April28.pdf

The feature purse for 24 silver crown cars at Terre Haute is $32,650. If you deduct the $100 entry fee for 24 cars you end up with a feature payout of $30,250.

A comparison:
USAC sprint feature purse (22 cars less $30 entry fee) = $20,790
USAC midget feature purse - 2012 Midget Week (22 cars less $30 entry fee) = $11,740
KISS sprint feature purse (20 cars, no entry fee) = $11,225
Lawrenceburg sprint feature purse (20 cars, no entry fee) = $7,675
Kokomo sprint feature purse (20 cars, no entry fee) = $7,405
Bloomington sprint feature purse (20 cars, no entry fee) = $7,215

A silver crown/KISS double header would be a HUGE financial risk for any promoter. That's over $41,000 in purse alone. With GA tickets at $25 you need 1,640 people just to cover the purse (and there is a whole lot more expense to promoting a race than the purse).

Thanks for the response Sandy. I had no idea the silver crown purse was that much! Is the purse so much higher because if the longer races or more because of the prestige of it? I am sure I am way off in saying the operating costs would be similar to the 410 non wing?
