Do you need a long spline on the left side for a non wing car?

It is not totally necessary. Most of the time you have it tucked all the way in anyway.

Since I'm a person who does change the spacing on the left rear quite a bit,It's really not necessary to have long splines on the left rear,we have a couple of 4 off left rear wheels that we use if we really want to space it out far and still have plenty of splines in the wheel center.
