I was planning on it for sure, then the Union Steward called me yesterday afternoon and asked if I wanted to work Sunday, which I said I would. Now I have to decide if I want to go to work on a few hours sleep, like I did when I went to the Arnie Knepper memorial race,or not.
I'll have to think this one over today, and probably tomorrow morning too..... |

Scotshot, Is there a good Italian restaurant in DuQuoin? Do you or yours remember a midgeteer (owner I think) named Willard Coil from Washington Court House from many seasons ago?

Dave, there is an Italian restaurant downtown Du Quoin on Main Street. The place is called Algoni's. Really nice place but not too swanky, food is well above average.
We've eaten there a few times when we've been down to the Fair and the Labor Day weekend races on The Mile. Good food and not too pricey. This is the link to their menu webpage. http://www.alongis.com/menu.php They have wine and beer, but not sure if they serve mixed drinks. Scotshot might know of another Italian restaurant in Du Quoin but we're not aware of any. If you are looking for a good place for breakfast in Du Quoin there is a place called Kalin's Cafe' not far from Algoni's that is pretty good. It's on Main Street as well but on the opposite side of the street from Algoni's.

Two of us leaving Evansville about 1:00PM. Been to every one of these events. I'll never forget the first race run in this building on a cold January day when the high temp outside was 17 degrees!

Greetings from Du quoin! Got here about 130 EST. Only five hours flat and I stopped at most rest stops and filled up once.
Drove through town a couple times. Seen the Fairgrounds and to my surprise many teams are already there and more were pulling in. Is there a practice tonight? Didn't see any mention of one. Any other Restaurant e recommendations would be appreciated, Not feeling much like McD's or Pizza Hut. That one mentioned is apreciated. Looking more into steak joint though. See you all tomorrow. I'll be the fat arse in the Cincinnati Reds shirt, Jeans and a black and white hot rod jacket NO 17* tomorrow. 56 for the high and 61 for the drive home sunday, Chuck, trying to find a way to waist 24hrs now. Oh and BOOK YOUR ROOMS, Im at the Super 8 and I got the last room for tomorrow night (Smoking that is)

Wish I was going, but I have to work. If you leave after the races and head east, trust me, that area just east of Christopher where they put up the deer signs. They are not lying. A pretty good size buck wiped out my car on the way home. Always a good field at this race. Everyone have fun.
