Nice catch racer. Upon further review, I see I had Dave Norris and Al Miller both finishing 9th in my post above. Turns out Norris was actually 4th in the Coke Chevy. My "4" looked a bit like a "9" in my program.

Which reminds.....I make no guarantees as to accuracy, spelling, etc. Back in the day I often exited the speedways with a cooler which was much much lighter that the cooler with which I had entered the gate . It's conceivable, but unlikely, that this situation could have led to a rare error.

Pine, this Bob King, from Muncie, IN, is best remembered (by me anyway) for annual runs in the Little 500 at Anderson, IN. He won it at least a couple of times and I believe he is in the Little 500 Hall of Fame.

I always tell RacinBabe to carry the cooler up to the seats and I will carry it back afterwards. Much easier on my back that way. I also doubt that that would have had anything to do with an error or two.

Please elaborate. What was the resulting fallout? A good chuckle? A pissed off A.J.? I haven't heard this legend.

Just think...now when only 16 cars start a feature, everyone freaks out...lol.

I would sure pay $100.00 for a ticket to see this race again today, come to think of it it would probably be more like $250.00 or so with inflation figured in.

Many of these guys also raced in the Indy 500, and that was cool back then.

Less we forget these cars did not have much roll bar and skinny big old hard tires, you don't hear about a guy blistering a tire anymore but they sure did back then. What was neat back then was watching a rookie light up those slicks coming off # 4 at Salem from up on the bridge. Don't think they had OSHA back then?

Yeh I used to have to park way down the road and walk a mile to get in. I guess it's a good thing now because now I can get there late and park right at the ticket window, I could never make that walk now.
