That #83 Gapco Special was around for quite a while.

Leave it to Al to get the juices flowing on a cold February day. Great shot. Thanks Al.

That Smith Speed Shop #4 was a great ride for Larry Dickson......or should I say that Dickson was a great driver for Ray Smith? Works both ways I guess. Is that A.J. Watson's DOHC Ford #2 being wheeled by Andretti?

We watched Mike Mosley kill himself, or so we thought, in the car at the Dayton Speedway. Thank God, Mike wasn't seriously injured. A week or so later some guy named A.J. Foyt was in it at Terre Haute.

Mario won twin 50's at Oswego when the car was painted white. I saw Al Smith drive it when it was gold. He dumped it at Dayton also (ala Mike Mosely). This photo would lead me to believe that this was after the Smith Dayton crash because the nose is a different color from the rest of the car, as if it had been repaired. I didn't know that Mario had driven it when it was gold. That's interesting! Great photo, AL!

My memory is somewhat fuzzy after 40 years, but the photo is from 1968 at Oswego. Mario was definitely driving the Watson car that day. The race was suppose to be 100 laps, but due to the sweltering heat, they ran 2 races at 50 laps each and tried to cool off between races. I remember Sam Sessions won the first 50. I'm not sure if he also won the second race. Maybe somebody has the the USAC yearbook from '68.

Great photo Al, I was at that race with my Dad. At the time it was one of the greatest racing experiences of my life, today the photo brought a bright spot to an otherwise cold, snowy Oswego day.
