The comments under this post have me wondering though. The biggest paying sprint car show in the midwest is in Iowa of all places, as this is winged country. Has anyone ever tried a "Nationals" format type race in Indiana, for a large purse? If not, how come? You guys certainly are sitting on a lot of cars / talent...I know I'd be there to watch!

I think Knoxville Nationals are overrated. The prestige and tradition is there but... Put it this way there was another person there form Indiana and they said it perfectly, the Hot Lap Nationals. Because it is like watching four nights of nothing but hot laps, no passing at all. JMHO

The one and so far only Mopar Million at Eldora is as close to a K'Ville Nats. like event for traditional wingless sprints as there has ever been IMO. The Oval Nats. right now is pretty much the biggest event in wingless racing as far as the purse, the ammount of entrys and competition.

As for in Indiana I think the Terre Haute Nats. during the old NWWC tours were the last pretty big events. I think the first one in 1999 paid $17,000 to win. Frankie Kerr and Jac Haudenschild had a spirited battle in that one. Still regret not going to that race!!! Another event I miss is the old U.S. Dirt Nats. at THAT. Four classes of sprint cars in two nights of racing.

Last year's K'Ville Nats. was definitely not the best one.

petey...I remember going to the Dirt Nationals held at I-55 in Pevely, MO in '98 I think. It was a 2 day show ran in conjunction with the WoO. 2 classes, awesome racing...but they moved it to THAT.
