You are absolutely correct. I have seen a few marathon days of racing in my life, but this one beat all of them. For over 12 hours that the cars were on the racetrack surface, Manzanita Speedway was wide, racey, and maintained two grooves. And half of that was in the daytime, with the sun blazing down! And the only thing they did to it was douse it with water between the Friday portion of the event, and the Saturday portion. That is practically unheard of in our sport.
It was a fantastic day of racing, with three great features, and I will remember it for the rest of my life. I've seen so many races in my lifetime that it's rare when you see one that you know will stand out. But this one definitely will...
Kudos to Steve Dunn and his crew for all the improvements they've made at Manzanita, the excellent track surface they had for us this weekend, and to USAC for putting on a fine racing program on Saturday. Well, done...
