That is what they have always called it, oldest race track in AR, built in 1948.

[/COLOR]Isn't that kinda where it sits.....in a ditch?

I'll let ya know.....goin back there Saturday for my 2nd time. Sentimental trip for me as that's where a lifelong friend's brother met his demise on July 4,1976....Larry "Captain Crunch" Kirkpatrick (Bobby Sparks #63)
Hope I know somebody there...

That was a bad deal... I stay with Sparks when I am down there... traveled many miles with Bobby and heard lots of stories about Larry.

Any one remember who it was Larry popped at Eldora after an on track altercation. I think just weeks before his crash.

I remember Captain Crunch well. He filled in for Pancho Carter (Eldora?) at least once in Bopper's Sprint car while Pancho was off somewhere racing an IndyCar IIRC.

I always thought it was because it was so close to the Mississippi (I've heard some people call that "the big ditch"). Also some maps of that area actually show drainage ditches along with roads, highways, etc.. If you look on the map you'll see Ditch#5, Ditch#19 and so on.
