Salem is a different kind of problem.
I'm just not sure how people will get there in time for a show that is meant to run in the afternoon. Gonna be a long night (and will probably take some speeding) for a lot of people if they want to go to Salem on Sunday.... |

USAC doesn't have a plethora of pavement sprint events. If the promoter at Salem is determined that the chosen date best suits his 16 event schedule, should USAC just dump Salem? I don't think so. |

Thanks to Tony for the explanation. Now we know why Union County has the date that Kamp had last year. With the improvements, I suspect the midgets will put on a great show at UC. This is the kind of home growth that USAC needs to foster.
But.........the core issue raised by this thread remains. There was an IMW date at Kamp and that has been replaced by the sanction in Iowa. Still doesn't seem kosher. I'd prefer to see the Osky race run unsanctioned. I'm also surprised that we haven't heard anything from E. Hahn seeing as this event was originally listed on the Sprint Bandits tour again for 2008. By the way, speaking of odd Midget dates, I'm really happy to see USAC schedule a race at Southern National on April 12th. But, with only one date and a long road trip (believe, I know), how many midgets can we really expect? I'll be surprised if they get 20. When ARDC has a 2-night trip to NC, they only pull 13-14 cars. And that's a straight shot down I-95. Two races have already been cancelled from the Midget sked this week. Will this be the third? I won't be there. I hope to be in Indiana for the Bloomington opener and then at Brownstown for the MSCS. |

When USAC announced the santioning of the Ultimate Challenge, you had to figure that the Kamp date would be in question. I honestly don't think USAC had a choice but to cancel the KAMP race. The Ultimate Challenge is a higher profile event and should help spread the USAC message beyond Indiana. Furthermore, if USAC had not cancelled KAMP and it went on as scheduled, the names that run both would have likely been at Osky. It would have watered down the KAMP event for the casual fans (who want to see the Stewart, Kahne and other teams)and would have generated more complaints.
Ultimately, tHis was a strategic business decision that USAC had to make and I applaud them for making it in January. The midget week races will still go on and we can all enjoy then in the August heat...ah heat. |

I guess the bottom line is that if you do not have the facts, then don't go off half-cocked. People are getting all fired up about something when they don't really understand the situation. I hope we can learn from this.
Not EVERYTHING negative that happens everywhere in the universe is always USAC's :usac:fault. Sometimes, yes, but not everytime.:O: |

It will give some of the PowerI mid pack guys a shot at a win...which is a good thing. There are plenty of cars to go around so car count won't be an issue.
