I was interested to hear about how you had to restrict airflow to get temp. Traditional USAC engines rely on some very fixed subsytems (mechanical injection, fixed ignition, no thermostat, etc) I'm sure your builder is looking at that data and realizing that there is still some power left on the table. Thats good news.

Finally, I was wondering what the approved procedures for fighting an ethanol fire are, and do they differ from methanol? I remember the race in Florida a few years ago when Hotrod had that bad fire and it just made me wonder if the crews will be prepared for the change? I guess the fact that they'll carry less fuel is a positive from the safety perspective at least...

Watch Daytona and see what Nascar does I just found out they switched to Ethanol too. Political correct racing,*** give me a break*** they make methanol out of coal, we mine that stuff, gives minners a job, and we don't have to raise the price of my "corn flakes". Tony should have something to say about it shortly.

Anyone who thinks ethanol riases the price of their corn flakes is highly misinformed. We raise a couple of thousand acres of corn(and gov't says we-US has a surplus) and feed couple of thousand fat steers, due to by-products of ethanol processing our feed prices have dropped to 1/2 what they were before we had access to by-products. So cost of beef is more related to lack of beef in country(a couple of weeks ago, lowest slaughter #'s in over 50 years). Store prices are more because tranportation and co's. just wanting more $...

Why is my steak so high then. Why ain't you guys raising more cows then are you creating a shortage to get the price up a proven method.
I'm from L'vile watched farmers over at Seagrems hauling off the slop for their cattle. I need the whole thing for my corn flakes.

Stockracer is spot on in regards to ethanol and by-product feed sources.

If ya'll want to be concerned about something that is costing you money and is ag related I'd say ya' might look to the fairly sizable government checks that go out to nearly all grain farm operators, especially the big ones, every October.

The next time you ride down the road on the way to the races and see a 24 row planter or a combine and auger wagon rolling through the field along with two or three semi's pulling big hopper bottom grain trailers settin' on the end of that field, take heart. A chunk of your tax dollars is represented by all that stuff. And believe me, many of these guys could buy and sell the Average Joe on a slow day. Many times over, in fact.

Sorry to get off subject, but I thought I'd chime in on the last post. The diversion of feed grain to ethanol production in fact isn't costing much in the way of increased food costs.

I believe Nascar runs 85% gasoline with 15% ethanol mixture. 2012 is the second year they have done this.
It's more of a promotion for the ethanol industry than a real substantive change in the fuel they use.

Most pump gasoline for street driving has at least 10% ethanol anyway. It may rise to 15%.

Is Methanol cheaper than Ethanol? Does it produce more power than Methanol? Is Methanol produced from a food crop? Do Coal Miners get a big Federal KICK BACK for digging COAL? Farmers are good people the problem is there are not too many families left that are running their own farms. But we treat the big Ag Corps like they are families. If you take the perks away from Petro Companies why not take them back from Ag Corps too?

Hey Cody, my concern is if they didn't change the tank size rule then maybe they should and require a minimum that is closer to what everyone is running. If they don't someone will come out with a 59 gallon tank soon since that would be big enough now and that would obsolete all the bigger ones we run. That size must be left over from the 4cyl. offy days although I'm not sure what those cars had for sure. USAC really ought to raise that minimum, of course they now allow all the cage body work like the sprint cars so maybe they want to run smaller tanks like them too, even though not one fan likes small tanks. I would also like to know how much this fuel will cost next year???? Thanks for your info, Mike.

I think what he said was the fuel mileage gained with electronic injection was lost on the Ethanol blend.
