I am going to try to start a new thing on here throughout the winter months for all of us to get our racing fix. It's going to be a video of the day from YouTube involving non-wing sprints, midgets, & Silver Crown.

Here is where I will begin, the USAC Sprint Car Series season opener from April 26, 1981 that aired on ABC Wide World of Sports. The announcing team includes legendary college football announcer Keith Jackson and National Speed Sport News's Chris Economaki. Enjoy!

Why at that time did the wall around turns 3 and 4 only go half way then around the rest of turn 4 was a guard rail?

Tim, On my first visit to Eldora in 1966 the whole fence was a double tier guardrail just like Terre Haute used to be. Earl started replacing it with concrete in the 70's and turn 3 & 4 was the last to be completed...don't remember what year that was but I think sometime in the mid 80's

Jack Hewitt from 16th to 4th...not too shabby at all!!! If I remember correctly (help me out Marv) the next day on Sunday there was a 60 lap USAC Silver Crown race that was won by Danny Smith in the Gambler House Dirt Car.

I knew my memory was fading...Danny Smith won in 1982 and the day before Jack Hewitt won the sprint feature.
