Maybe he was just randomly thinking out loud & just made a statement, shooting from the lip. I'm sure we have all said something we regret later.
But do we stop fishing cause someone drowned, deer hunting cause someone died, stop showering because someone fell & died (think I've been near a couple them).
It's life your born then we pass on, thank God for what we have. RIP Dan Wheldon

I don't believe Indy cars need to be at the high banked ovals (that's stock car land). Pocono, Milwaukee, and the like are much better suited. Unfortunately, it takes sponsors and fans to support a race anywhere, and the NAS-vogue has been to pump up the banking so they can get more speed. The laps at LV Sunday were breathtaking.

I know it is not a popular thought, but something may have to be done to slow them down on LV styled tracks. The Lights cars were nose to tail drafting for every lap, but at 193mph they were still moving.

What does Jimmy Johnson think of the Indycar race in Kentucky two weeks ago? Was that too dangerous Jimmy? Should it have been stopped? If someone dies this weekend in Talladega should Nascar stop running superspeedways? Racing is dangerous. It always will be. RIP Dan Wheldon

I fear that in today's politically correct world, non-racers will try to "fix" indy car racing. If they take the open wheel element out of the car design, then they are no longer indy cars. Remember, real race cars don't have fenders.

Just my opinion but I have never been an indycar fan. They are way too dangerous, I understand that any form of racing has its dangers and risks but indycars are by far the most dangerous. When they hit something they completely fall apart and almost every wreck I have seen of them has been pretty nasty. Just my two cents for what it's worth.

As a complete side note to everything, did anyone else notice that when listing off other "throwbacks to the glory days of open wheel racing" that when Mario Andretti was mentioned they showed a picture of Rick Mears. All the other drivers listed were with their respective pictures so was this a poor job of playing "match the face to the driver" by an editor or just a fluke?

They're designed to fall apart like they do to disperse energy.

"Now, hold on folks…"
http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2011/...hold-on-folks/

I wish that some people and that includes Jimmy Johnson to STFU and show some respect to the Wheldon family. Over at one Indy Car forum one SOB asked "who will replace Weldon at Andretti Racing?". Really!!! That's what so important at this time? Hell, Kanaan almost got killed at Baltimore a few weeks back. On a friggin' street course.

Just read on Twitter that "The Westboro Baptist Church is going to picket Dan's funeral".

I read a similar article earlier about Jimmy and I thought "this is going to be percieved badly". I took it that Jimmy was just talking freely about a friend he lost less than 24 hours earlier and some jackass reoporter turned it into a story. If the reporter didnt think it was going to cause a major stir we would never have read about it.

Everybody always wants to see the real side of our idols but when they are not right not on que with an edited emotionless press release we cast stones. I'm sure in time he will regret what he said but for a while he will probably hold a little anger towards what he feels robbed him of a good friend.

In all fareness asking Jimmy Johnson's opinion on Indy car racing is like asking Hank Williams Jr's opinion on ********, what good could come from it?
