We shouldn't start they should have done this or done that! If we did that, than we could say, maybe they shouldn't have started 34 cars on a blistering fast mile and a half. It happened and it was very unfortunate, but a part of racing. I know what you are saying, but maybe the IRL felt guilty, you know?.

Its 5.30 in the morning were i live and the news has already reported that he was having car problems(NOt True) and the other news said his name was Dave .With the news media being about as smart as a fifth grader lately, i am sad to say we will see some really IDIOT point of opinions about our favorite sport today! There will be nothing that they will say today that will make us proud of Auto racing. I think when the sun comes up I am going to lower my flag half way for a few days as my tribute to a man who lost his life too early.

Bummer ecpecially for the kids. That being said, thats one of the reasons they're treated like rock stars. The five lap salute was akward. Personally I believe the race should have been restarted, with the drivers not hearing of Mr.Weldons death intill after the event. I'm old school I guess, when my granddaddy ran board tracks he lost many a friend.

I have my 3'x5' checkered flag at half staff today and for the rest of the week in tribute. If you weren't a Dan Weldon fan and he won the race you felt OK because Dan Weldon was a good guy.

Pete,
Thanks so much for saying what many of us feel but can't quite put into words. I didn't see the live broadcast but last night saw the accident over and over again. The thing that struck me was the first 5 or 6 times they showed it, was in slow motion and still frames. Then they showed it from Dan's in car camera and other angles in real time speed and it was unreal. In the blink of an eye, the racing world changed. Trying to even talk about it this morning at the office with co-workers is extremely difficult. Words certainly can't describe how I feel today. I am a racing fan and I live and die racing. However, today it really doesn't seem very important. These are the days we all hope never happen, but they do. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and two little children. How their lives changed in the blink of an eye yesterday. ![]()

I refuse to engage in the debate about whether they should have finished the race or not. They were the ones there, they were the ones having to make a call under unbelievably afwul circumstances. Whatever they decided, I was going to support the call 100%.
My heart goes out to Dan's family and friends along with the rescue workers, officials, and all the other teams and drivers. Whenever something like this happens, ALL racing fans hurt.
