Blonde Leads MustSee To Salem
by NSSN Staff

SALEM, Ind. — Jason Blonde has always had a love for speed and racing. Growing up in Litchfield, Mich., just five miles from Butler Speedway, he spent a lot of time at the track and has been racing sprint cars since graduating from high school.

On March 19, Blonde earned the title “Fastest of the Fast” by competing in the World’s Fastest Half-Mile Speed Trials and won. The competition was part of the 50-year anniversary celebration of Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tenn.

He completed a blistering lap traveling 144.871 miles per hour in 13.245 seconds. He competed against Ford NASCAR drivers in a street legal Mustang, a Tony Stewart-owned sprint car, two supermodifieds and a world superbike champion for the title.

“It’s pretty much the biggest thing I’ve ever done in my racing career,” said Blonde. “It was on the Speed Channel. It was at Bristol and there were lots of NASCAR drivers there.”

Blonde said the Bristol track is very comparable to the high banks of Salem Speedway, noting the biggest difference is that Bristol is a smoother track.

One fact the two tracks do have in common is that Blonde holds the track record at both.

Last May, Blonde set Salem’s .555 mile track record going 140 miles per hour in 14.224 seconds. He said racing Salem’s track definitely helped him prepare for the Bristol event.

“The speed is the same and the set up is the same,” he said.

This weekend, Blonde will be back at the Salem Speedway racing in the Winged Sprint Spectacular featuring The Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series. Although he has only one win at the track, which was July 12, 2003, Blonde said Salem is one of his favorite places to race

Jason Blonde will be back in his primary car, a 410 MOPAR Gaerte Diablo 2011 Model. Jason's Bristol ride has been retired to Billy Wease!

“I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone at Salem,” he said. “They always treat us first class there and it’s one of our favorite tracks to go to for that reason.”

Blonde will lead a distinguished group of drivers onto the high banks on Sunday. Expected entries include Troy DeCaire, Ryan Litt, Jeff Bloom, Jacob Wilson, Jimmy McCune, Travis Miniea, Mike Larrison, Hank Lower, Kyle Flint, Jason Cox, Billy Wease, Dave Baumgartner and Donnie Adams, Jr., among others.

The track will host an open test and tune session Saturday and on Sunday, MSRXSS will host a special autograph meet and greet session with the drivers, present a race fan contest with the grand prize winner receiving a certificate to drive a real sprint car and the race fans can strap on the seat belts in the Must See Racing show sprint car.

Sunday’s race is also the season opening event for the Lucas Oil Super Stocks and the Dave & Deb’s Winner’s Circle Great American Stocks.

Ease up on the hate, jonesy...Don is just trying to promote his team and his sponsorship. I would think we would all want everybody promoting racing as hard as we can right now.

Just talked to Jim Hanks, and it looks like this is the early entry list for Salem's Sunday race:
Donnie Adams Jr.
Dave Baumgartner
Kyle Wiegent (in the Blake 81)
Jason Blonde
Jeff Bloom
Jerry Caryer
Jason Cox
Troy DeCaire
Travis Miniea
Kyle Flint
JoJo Helberg
Ron Koehler
Mike Larrison
Ryan Litt
Hank Lower
Jimmy McCune
Chris Neuenschwander
Aaron Pierce
Billy Wease
Jacob Wilson
Tom Tolbert

Forecast looks fantastic, 81 and sunshine. Wish I could go to Eldora Fri and Sat, but at least I'll get my sprint car fix at Salem.

OK. A Blonde will be there. How about a redhead or a brunette?
lolol
Bob Mays of the Hawkeye Racing News will be there for his first visit to the track where I saw my first race. Wish I could be there too.
