Loyet starts on the pole of his heat, goes wire to wire winning the heat and then after the race is over he's penalized 2 POSITIONS for "Jumping the start". How do you jump the start when you're on the pole. Also, If somehow he jumped the start, why wouldn't they throw a yellow and restart rather than wait till AFTER the race to penalize him?

Exactly. Maybe that's how they call it there? You should give the pole car a second chance before being penalized and do it before re-starting the race as to create a new line up moving the other cars into place.

I totally agree with you. Maybe some Kiwi could explain if they do it differently down under.

No you didn't hear the interview correctly. Initially Loyet was penalized 2 positions and Scott Buckley (Kiwi) was penalized 1 position. They both appealed but ONLY Buckley's penalty was rescinded! That's how Buckley was given "credit" for the win.

Did he start on the inside or outside? I think if I remember right, the outside is actually considered position 1 and the inside is P2. That might help a little as to why he was penalized. Again this is off memory from being there 8 years ago so I could be totally wrong...lol
