The discussion above reminds me that the "Extreme" paved sprint car series has been advertising that they are the world's fastest short track race cars. Is that really true? Are they really faster than the supers? Somehow, I doubt it.

Obviously this is just qualifying and not actual racing, not all things being equal at Toledo Speedway: AVSS Derek Snyder 12.656 142.225 MSA (super's) Charlie Schultz 12.999 138.472 Outlaw Super Late Model Derrick Griffin 14.809 USAC Sprints Kody Swanson 14.668 USAC Midgets Tracy Hines 15.081 CRA Super Series John VanDoorn 15.437 116.603 ASA North Late Model Eric Jones 15:834 ARCA Chris Buescher 15.948 112.867 I'm the guy who hates the phrase "so-and-so won qualifying" |

the last time the supers ran at winchester in 1990 bentley warren ran a 13.99 second qualifying lap and i believe that was with out a wing i cant imagine what they would run now i bet it would be faster than the winged sprints though.

As a comparison, I looked at the 2010 rules for both AVSS & ISMA. For you technical people here is the specs. AVSS Minimum weight 1600 pounds with driver Right rear tire- Hoosier 20/48-53 ISMA Minimum weight 1850 pounds without driver or 2050 pounds with driver Right rear tire-Hoosier 17/28-15 I know that the guys from ISMA & MSA feel that they have the fastest cars. Toledo is one of the few places that they actually compete straight up with each other. I also don't think that the supers qualify most shows, but I could be wrong on that point. I am interested in some comments on this. Fire away.

Mike, you are right the supers do not qualify or time trial as we would call it at most of there races. I'm sure you know in my book the supers are the fastest cars even if AVSS beats them at one track.

I think the Oswego supers are the coolest looking race cars around. I wish we had supers racing around Cincinnati because USAC pavement racing and supers are about the only thing that has a chance of getting me out of the house any more. Well, poor health and lack of money have something to say about that also. Yeah, I know this is pretty much a snooty little open wheel dirt community here, but I love the pavement open wheel racing and will not apologize to anybody for it.
