Enjoyable night of racing. It is nice to see that someone has taken the time, energy and especially the money to bring the Put back to life. I hope that they can continue to make improvements and raise the bar. A miracle took place in that they were able to revive the men's restroom.

The only negative on my end was the timing of the show. 5:30 AM came extremely quickly today since I didn't get home until 1:30 AM. I enjoyed the fireworks but we could have done without that in the middle of the show. I also question why they ran two semi's for the sprint cars? Thought that could have been one race like the midget semi.

A nice crowd on hand and the car count was great. Hope that this continues for the rest of the weekend shows.

I hear ya, I packed it in during the fireworks and gained about 1.5 hrs sleep before the alarm went off this morning. Shame but thats what pays the bills to go to the races.

Agreed, but it seems to get in the way of racin!

USAC put a lot of faith in and rolled the dice on Joe Spiker this year, by scheduling three events at LPS on his first full year there. And considering the fact that people came out in droves to fill the stands, there were 100 race cars in the pits and it was a 90 degree sunny Indiana day, this had the potential to be a "make or break" situation for this track operator and his team.

When I arrived, there was still time to walk around on the Putnamville Porch (it's a unique asset that this track has) and talk to other race fans. There was a feeling shared by everybody in attendance that was just so pervasive, it wasn't something that you thought might be there. You knew it as fact. And that was "Lincoln Park Speedway is back from the dead, on this beautiful day.", "What a great place it always has been to see a race." and "How cool is that?" Bliss, almost giddiness was abound.

And from midget hot laps to the last several laps of the modified feature, the racing was stellar, all night. The midget B-Main was the race of the night, IMO. That race proved that midgets 4 wide, on this track, is no problem at all. And adding to that the fact that you had a big, happy crowd that mostly stayed until the checkered fell on the modified feature, USAC has to be thinking "It was a good idea coming here." and "How about signing this track up for more races?" On the "Make or Break" category, this event was a big-time "Make"!

Agreed Jerry. I thought after the last disaster that I attended during the DA tenure, it might be all over for Lincoln Park. A great save by Joe Spiker indeed.

a Greaat night but can't understand how 21 Midget can run a semi and it takes 2 semi's for the sprint cars? 2 races of 7 cars?

How about the flagman trowing the checkerd in the middle of a heat. Then later dropping the yellow flag. Haven't seen that for a long time.

Great fireworks again, only took 6 minutes, plus another 10 for the lights to come back on. But worth the time.

Most important was the number of true race fans who stayed andd watched the modified race. There was a bunch who enjoyed another great modified event at LPS.

It all happens again July 24 with Usac Sprints for "The Night before the Brickyard.com 40.

Hope to see everybody there again plus all of your friends.

Joe Spiker told me afterwards that it was a large crowd but not his largest of the year. I find this hard to believe but he said the IOW/Racinwithdo-Fest crowd was larger???? Either way a nice bunch of seats where filled.

Jerry, thank you for a very positive post, it is good to hear that a race track has been saved and is prospering. IMHO it is refreshing to see a positive post about a track promoter stepping up to help save a track that could have been lost. Of course I probably never gave as much thought to what impact negative post on a message board can play on the fate of a race track until Manzy closed. While Manzy did not close over negative post being made on the internet, it did make me aware that track owners, promoters and the racers that support our race tracks across the country need our positive support. Hopefully USAC will continue to book races at LPS, sounds like I missed a good night of racing.
