Hello everybody first I want to tell you Trav is doing good today. The drugs are being taken away slowly and they pinch Trav in different spots to see if he responds and he is responding slowly. I would like to tell a story about racing and racers. One of the reasons Kathy and I are so blown away by all this support is when Trav started racing sprint cars when he was sixteen he wore out alot of stuff he hit everything but the lottery. He has always been a gasser but over the last few years he has developed into a driver that is a threat any where we go unless I screw him up which I have on many occasions. Trav would always tell me dad just get me close. Anyway about two years ago another gasser from the northwest by the name of Mitch Olson and Trav got into a rivalry that lasted about a year. They would qualify together it seemed they were in the same heat all the time, they would start beside each other every main event we just could not get away from each other. Needless to say we both tore up a lot of equipment it finally came to the point where we were rolling around in the mud at Skagit beaten the crap out of each other. After a small donation to the Steve Bietler no fighting fund we were back racing a week later. Since then we all kind of became pretty good friends. Anyway The reason I tell you this when we first got here and cards and letters started coming one of the first cards to come was from Mitch and Amee it meant so much to Kathy and me but heres were it gets weird as I was writing this today my phone rang and it was Mitchs Dad Mike calling just to send his best wishes. Thats what racers are all about!!!!On a sad note Lisa had to leave for home today for a while her and Kenny will be at LQMA tomorrow for turkey night. Lisa all I can say is we are so proud of you and how you looked after Trav when you were here. We are so happy that you are Travs girlfriend you have always been like a daughter to us and can only hope you get back here soon....Till tomorrow Doug
This story proves what I have always said: We (all of us in racing) are a family. Even though we may fight cuss at scream at yell at wreck each other and be little each other when the chips are down and one of us is hurt or on hard times we all pull together.
This is one family that I am DAMN proud to be a member of.
May Travis get well soon and be able to resume his appearant love and addiction of racing.
