I FOUND THIS TOPIC ON THE BRAND X BOARD
USAC had a meeting with 8 drivers offering to pay them to stay away from their local tracks and run USAC only??? ***

What will the Indiana tracks have to say about about that???

USAC payed Benic tow money to not go to the TNT series and not other teams??? Plus rent an airplane to fly drivers to the Burg after Springfield so they wouldn't run at TnT at KC???

Maybe the Indiana track better start thinking about taking away their USAC dates of Indiana Sprintweek and Midgetweek????

This is all a good rumor but if true will dump the apple cart and open the door for the TnT series to take over open wheel racing.

Emmett Hahn has said he wants a 30 to 40 TnT series paying good money next year. This will make that easy to do.

More to come I'm sure.

What do you think of this???

This would be one way to get the purses raised for a top tier non wing sprint show.

Let Dave Darland, Levi Jones, Jerry Coons, Jr., Tracy Hines, Jon Stanbrough, etc. come to your track when the fans pay $35 admission and have these guys race for much larger purses. Keep your local shows just that... local shows. On a regular night fans can pay their $12-$15 admission and see the local racers. Maybe then guys like Darland, etc. can make a living doing this.

IMHO that is the best move USAC could make that is what I have been trying to say. That is why non wing pay is where it is at they still get the cars and the big names for the little dollars. The fans still show up and as long as it happens it will never change. Until the drivers and sanctioning bodies take a stand it will never change. WOO used to penalize drivers with points and fines if they raced within so many miles of a WOO event the day before or the day after to keep promoters from paying big win dollars but no purse on back this kept the WOO's big named drivers from going to support those races. If the WOO drivers would have supported it the WOO would be no longer in business today.

USAC and MSCS would love to be able to pay more money but the promoters will not schedule there shows when they ask for more. Because the promoters know they don't have to because most of the top names show up anyway. If they quit showing up the purses would go up. What would the big shows be like without the names of Darland, Jones, Hines, Gardner, Ballou, Sweet, Stanbrough, Coons jr, Clauson, and so on. I personally think this is a step in the right direction.

Very interesting. I do know that Houston Raceway Park just noted that they intend to have sprint cars (non wing of course) date(s) next year. . . . .

This will be the first time in over 21 years (as long as I have been living here) that the Houston area has run a sprint car race without wings.

Hey Lloyd,
Be careful about what you put on IOW
You may get a PM like the one I received from a certain USAC biggie. He asked for my opinion, but strongly "hinted" in his PM to me that my opinions are based on rumors and hearsay. You are a likely target for a PM after posting an admitted rumor about USAC. :2:

I know it may have worked for the WoO sanction, but it killed the whole "Outlaw" ideal. No longer would those drivers be seen at their local tracks or Silver Crown. It may work for USAC, but there is always a downside too.

This could benefit the drivers in the end which I am totally for. However, as a fan I'd hate to see it the way things currently are. The great thing about living in IN is you can see all the great drivers pretty much every weekend (unless USAC is "out of town"). It's nice to show up at a local event and see those guys anytime you want to. I'd hate to see that go away. WoO is a true national series. USAC right now is pretty much a 70-80 percent IN series. I'd hate to see those running for USAC points not be able to compete when and where they want to. It's tough because I want bigger purses, but don't want to see drivers have to sit races out that they would normally attend.

Now, if this means more USAC shows than local shows that is fine with me. I don't mind paying the extra money if the field has all the heavy hitters. If the number of USAC shows around IN dirt tracks stays the same, then there would be a lot of "sitting out" of weekends and I am not for that. I see both sides of it.

By my quick count, the USAC schedule is made up of about 40-50% Indiana dates.
