I am totally appauled at USAC's piss poor handling of Brian Tyler's oil smoking situation. He was smoking for 15 plus laps before the engine blew and USAC did nothing. I was in an area where I saw 5 YES 5 USAC officials see his car smoking worse and worse every lap and nothing was done. Hell, the front of Darland's car was black from oil and he was right behind Tyler the entire time. USAC you really screwed that up. I did talk with a few car owners and they told me that if it was their car smoking that bad their car would have been black flagged but since it was one of the bigger teams in USAC and one of the bigger named drivers they let it go.

The crowd was also horrible. The attendance better picup or this race will not be on the schedule, if it returns next year at all.

Well, what a beautiful day at Springfield. Congrats to Cole Whitt who hit his marks all day long. Jon Stanbrough was pretty good too, but I knew that he couldn't pass Whitt if he caught him. There was some good racing back in the pack, and guys like Kaeding and Hagar got better as the race weht on. Thanks to the Ricky Nix crew for the beers in the pits. They buy the good stuff. Also, thanks to the Mike Stroele crew for the memories and great conversation, good luck at DuQouin. I'll save my rant about track prep and promotion till I'm in a better state of mind. It was nice to see Miledirt again also. Have a good weekend.

The thanks go to sprntr. He brought the beer. I probably talked to you down in their pits as I was with them today (goofy looking guy in the Gary Bettenhausen shirt/Hoosier tire hat). We had a blast even though the car was really untested after the repairs that the team made. The second practice session was all of one lap and then one hot lap in qualifying. Tony is a great driver and the Ricky and his crew did one hell of a good job to get the repairs made, take only one lap and bring it home 11th. My hat's off to them.
