I am looking to have a unique race with the Christmas In July event this Sunday afternoon at the Speedrome.

I am going to have a class for the National...another class that includes the Focus and Kenyon Cars, and another that includes TQ's. The cars will all compete together in the event , with a winner declared in each class.

I am looking to have three races rolled into one.

I will have a regular regional type purse for the midgets paying $1000 to win....but the winner of the Kenyon/Focus class will get a $300 bonus in addition to their regular winnings from the regional purse. 2nd place will get a $200 bonus...$125 to start...the TQ's winner will get a $200 bonus...and 2nd a $100 bonus...$125 to start. We will start as many as 24 cars.

This event will have a completely open tire rule.

For entry info..call Tony Barhorst at 317-418-3216, or e-mail tbracefest@aol.com.

Here is our TV Spot for the event produced by D.O.

Several classes at once, sort of like a Grand Am or ALMS type race, only on an oval? Interesting.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Fans can take home restaurant gift certificates and other prizes when they attend “Christmas in July” at the Rumble Series midget race on Sunday, July 19 at the Indianapolis Speedrome.

Promoter Tony Barhorst of Classic Motorsports said the event gives families a chance to enjoy a day of racing at specially reduced ticket prices while also having the opportunity to win special prizes.

“My main goal is to make it more than just a race,” said Barhorst, who is patterning the day after his annual Rumble in Fort Wayne indoor event, which takes place just after Christmas.

“The goal here is to have a lot of fun in the summertime. We’ll mix in Beach Boys Christmas music during the breaks and create an atmosphere of having fun in the sun while watching the races. We’ve gathered quite a few gift certificates and prizes to be given away to the fans and teams alike.”

Barhorst is getting in the spirit by dropping ticket prices to just $10 for adults and $5 for kids 6-11. There is no charge for children 5 and under. Parking is free.

Midgets and MiniCup stock cars will top the program, with practice at 4:30 p.m., time trials at 5 and racing at 5:30. Fans can come out early and watch quarter midgets, karts and Jr. Sprints from 1-3 p.m.

Michigan International Speedway has provided these tickets for prize drawings. A NASCAR weekend package of:
August 14- Sprint Cup qualifying-August 15- Nationwide Series race- August 16- NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Michigan 400. A grand prize of 2 Fri, Sat, & Sunday tickets to be given away together. Runner up prizes of 2 Sat. Nationwide tickets.

Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon has donated 800 free kids meal certificates that will be given away to everyone entering the spectator gates or pits as long as supplies last. They are valid at participating locations, including 10087 E. Washington St. in Indianapolis and 1721 E. 60th St. in Anderson.

Kids also will receive a Wolverine or Iron Man superhero mask, suitable for autographing.

Other prizes include two pit passes for the Rumble in Fort Wayne (Dec. 26-27); a $50 gift certificate to Houlihan’s Downtown; two $25 gift certificates to Lord Ashley’s Pub & Eatery, 11703 Pendleton Pike; a $45 gift certificate good at any Outback Steakhouse presented by the Post Road location; a Pep Boys car wash and wax kit presented by the 7201 E. Washington St. store; Lone Star free appetizer certificates; Danica Patrick, Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kasey Kahne posters; and Rumble Series souvenir hats.

Drivers and teams also will share in the festivities. Outback Steakhouse, 7525 U.S. Highway 31 South, will present the “Hungriest Driver Award,” a $25 gift certificate, to the top qualifier in both the midget and MiniCup divisions. Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon will award $15 gift certificates to the top three finishers in each division. And each team will receive a free 8 by 10 color photo of their car or kart on the track compliments of photographer Dave Gansert and the Rumble Series.

Chucker Rader's CUSTOM WORKS will offer...a custom detailed kart body to be drawn for during the July 19 at the Indianapolis Speedrome race... The drawing can be from all the kart classes of Senior medium, Senior Heavy, Senior Honda, Senior caged, Clones, Outlaws, and Kid karts

The quarter midget classes are Junior heavy, Junior Honda, Heavy Honda, Heavy 160, and entries will be taken at the door.

Companies that wish to have their prizes featured may contact Barhorst at tbracefest@aol.com.

The July 19 event will be the third of four open-wheel races this season at the Speedrome. The series wraps up on Sunday, Aug. 30 with UMRA TQ midgets, MiniCup cars, quarter midgets, karts and Jr. Sprints.

Barhorst has brought open-wheel racing back to the fifth-mile paved track on Indianapolis’ southeast side for the first time since 2005.

“We need to have the fan support of midget racing in order to be able to grow the sport,” he said. “Hopefully, fans will come out and support the event, and maybe they’ll come out of it with a prize. We need to grow the sport in order to get the prize money up for the teams. We hope to make this a yearly event.”

So far we have A.J Nigh and Michael Koontz...I did speak to others who may run at Mt Lawn in June..They may be seeing how Gas City goes for them.

I had one Focus car owner who thought a TQ could beat them.

Vukie...Very interesting...I love the Economaki article...Dave Argabright has a fine book on Chris...but I think there are volumes of stories that Chris has that need to be written down yet.

Chris is THE AUTHORITY on midgets and their history. I can't get enough..They are written in the real language of racing.

Here is another Formula Libre story from Ontario Speedway..Indy Cars, Formula One...A.J., Mario

Unfortuanately, I'm having to withdraw my entry. Turns out we hurt the motor a bit at Bloomington last week and didn't find it until the other night. We weren't able to get it ready for tonight or Sunday but will see everyone on Aug 30th. I think it's a great idea and wanted to support it, but we found more than we bargained for when changing the oil.

The did run the Silver Crown cars with the Indy cars at Pocono in 1981. Here are the results.

To Tony Barhorst, I love the idea you have for Sunday! Obviously you are a REAL promotor, and wish you all the best for this race.
Everyone crys about dwindling car counts, now Tony has responded with one of the best sollutions there may be. Just awesome!
