Rumble Series brings ‘Christmas in July’ to Speedrome

INDIANAPOLIS -- Fans can take home restaurant gift certificates and other prizes when they attend “Christmas in July” at the Rumble Series midget race on Sunday, July 19 at the Indianapolis Speedrome.

Promoter Tony Barhorst of Classic Motorsports said the event gives families a chance to enjoy a day of racing at specially reduced ticket prices while also getting the opportunity to take home prizes.

“My main goal is to make it more than just a race,” said Barhorst, who is patterning the day after his annual Rumble in Fort Wayne indoor event, which takes place just after Christmas.

“The goal here is to have a lot of fun in the summertime. We’ll mix in Beach Boys Christmas music during the breaks and create an atmosphere of having fun in the sun while watching the races. We’ve gathered quite a few gift certificates and prizes to be given away to the fans and teams alike.”

Barhorst is getting in the spirit by dropping ticket prices to just $10 for adults and $5 for kids 6-11. There is no charge for children 5 and under. Parking is free. HARF and DARF members will be admitted for just $5 with a valid membership card.

Midgets and MiniCup stock cars will top the program, with practice at 4:30 p.m., time trials at 5 and racing at 5:30. Fans can come out early and watch quarter midgets, karts and Jr. Sprints from 1-3 p.m.

Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon has donated 800 free kids meal certificates that will be given away to everyone entering the spectator gates or pits as long as supplies last. They are valid at participating locations, including 10087 E. Washington St. in Indianapolis and 1721 E. 60th St. in Anderson.

Kids also will receive a Wolverine or Iron Man superhero mask, suitable for autographing.

Other prizes include two pit passes for the Rumble in Fort Wayne (Dec. 26-27); a $50 gift certificate to Houlihan’s Downtown; two $25 gift certificates to Lord Ashley’s Pub & Eatery, 11703 Pendleton Pike; a $45 gift certificate good at any Outback Steakhouse presented by the Post Road location; a Pep Boys car wash and wax kit presented by the 7201 E. Washington St. store; Lone Star free appetizer certificates; Danica Patrick, Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kasey Kahne posters; and Rumble Series souvenir hats.

Drivers and teams also will share in the festivities. Outback Steakhouse, 7525 U.S. Highway 31 South, will present the “Hungriest Driver Award,” a $25 gift certificate, to the top qualifier in both the midget and MiniCup divisions. Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon will award $15 gift certificates to the top three finishers in each division. Every competing team (in all classes) will receive a free 8 by 10 color photo of their car/kart on the track courtesy of photographer Dave Gansert and the Rumble Series.

Companies that wish to have their prizes featured may contact Barhorst at tbracefest@aol.com.

The July 19 event will be the third open-wheel race of the season at the Speedrome. Full midgets, Focus, Kenyon, and three quarter midgets are permitted to run and will compete together. An open tire rule will be in effect.

"I encourage all teams to enter this last midget race of the season at the Speedrome. We want to have a lot of fun with this to create new fans of the sport. We need all midgets that can possibly make it for what will be a memorable event," Barhorst said.

Don Kenyon will be on hand to sell Hoosier tires, Barhorst said.

“We need to have the fan support of midget racing in order to be able to grow the sport,” Barhorst added. “Hopefully, fans will come out and support the event, and maybe they’ll come out of it with a prize. We need to grow the sport in order to get the prize money up for the teams. We hope to make this a yearly event.”

Following the July 19 event, the special summer series at the Speedrome will wrap up on Sunday, Aug. 30 with a program including UMRA TQ midgets, MiniCup cars, quarter midgets, karts and Jr. Sprints.

This board often makes note of how racing organizations to their detriment so often schedule against themselves ...

Well , it may not be racing but you have scheduled yourself against the " Nudes-A-Poppin' Festival " ,
the " longest running outdoor nude beauty pageant " in Roselawn , Indiana !

Paul,

I have often wondered...whatever happened to Paul Gray...I see your posts...but it has been a long time since we have seen you at the track....ahem....now this explains it....

I am trying to keep it family friendly...don't make me have to "resort" to this...

In all seriousness...lets get as many pavement midgets as possible out to the Speedrome for this last full midget race there...We need to band together and get behind pavement racing.

Have a great Fourth Of July weekend.
