Good question. I am thinking about going (after a Friday night Stop at Gas City), but am curious as to the car count. Looks like AVSS does not have a race scheduled (HOSS is at Anderson), so hopes are that they will pick up some of the Michigan pavement cars.

I think at least 15 USAC regulars and maybe 5 or 10 wing guys without wings? Here are the top 20 teams in points with my guess on who is racing K'ZOO:
USAC 1 RWB Motorsports YES 2 Tony Stewart Racing YES 3 VKCC Motorsports MAYBE? 4 Keith Kunz Motorsports YES 5 "Dynamics Inc." YES 6 DG Racing YES 7 Kasey Kahne Racing/Mike Curb YES 8 Tony Stewart Racing YES 9 Windom Motorsports YES 10 Billy Boat Motorsports YES 11 Indiana Underground Const. No Pavement 12 Corey Tucker No Pavement 13 Keith Kunz Motorsports YES 14 BK Motorsports MAYBE? 15 MPHG Motorsports MAYBE? 16 Don Short MAYBE? 17 WBR/Team 6R YES 18 Nic Faas MAYBE? 19 Bland Racing No Pavement 20 Klatt Enterprises YES Spridge? Whats your take? |

I'm afraid local support for this show might be light or non-existent. Earlier this year I talked to one team that was going to run it, one that was on the fence, and the rest were not going to attempt it. Considering it pays better than the winged purse I figured teams might want to try it, but apparently not.

I can tell you that from a hoss/avss competiter standpoint I would love to go race Kzoo and alot of the other usac pavement shows around the area. The purse is better and the cost to travel and operate the car is the same for a winged show verses a usac show. The main thing that is completley different is the tire bill. With a winged car at Kzoo I can be competitive buying 2 new tires maybe 3 for the whole night. If I dont buy 7 new tires for a usac show I might as well not even roll the car out of the trailer.

I don't think you would find the same reason among every team. Geoff touched on his reasoning, and some share his opinion while others are just die hard winged competitors. Hopefully a few do show up though because Kalamazoo is an great little race track. I'd love to see at least 18 cars show up. I hope the event draws enough fan support to sustain it. That's been the problem with USAC shows up here in the past. |

Anderson had 17 in April. 18 or 20 would be fine with me, though i would like to see more. it's too bad that tires are an issue for some teams. Usac should address it and try to make things more affordable. at this point weather may be an issue also.
