Indy 500 Photographers

Question: Friend of mine is coming over from England. First time at the 500 and he has photo credentials. ( Yeah, I know ) He was asking if he could wear shorts, or is there some requirement for long pants? Firesuit in pit lane? Can you go wherever you want around the track - like pit lane, victory circle, pagoda, outside the turns - or are you limited or assigned to certain areas based on your credentials?
