MTQRL Season Finale Saturday at Brownstown Speedway’s “Funfest”
The Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Jenmarco.com will close out their 2014 race season this weekend at the Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Ind. As part of the track’s annual “Funfest”, a 4-day racing extravaganza, the MTQRL three-quarter midgets will race on Saturday October 11th.
Prior to the MTQRL three-quarter midgets and super late models hitting the track that evening, afternoon activities include a swap meet, memorabilia auction, lawn mower derby and roll over contest. For information on additional “Funfest” activities, and other classes competing, please visit

CODY KIEWITT, 1,189 points
The 2014 MTQRL Championship is still up for grabs with four drivers mathematically alive for the title. Point leader Cody Kiewitt will eliminate two drivers, defending champion Nick Speidel and Ronnie Combs, when he hits the track for practice. That will leave the point battle as a two-man race between Kiewitt and Matt Arrington. Kiewitt holds a 72-point lead over Arrington and can clinch his first MTQRL championship if he starts his heat race and finishes ninth or better in the feature. If Kiewitt is able to win his heat, the title will be his with a seventeenth place feature finish.
Along with the season championship, the Indy Race Parts Hard Charger title will also be decided. Aaron Percell, last year’s Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Year, leads the standings by 12 points over Matthew Hedrick and Tate Martz. To overtake Percell those drivers will have to start deep in the field and score a high feature finish since a point is awarded for each position gained from the original posted starting lineup.
Saturday’s race will mark the nineteenth event of the season although only twelve features have been run. Three races were completely lost to weather and two others were rained out before racing could begin. One date was also lost when the Gas City I-69 Speedway ended its season prematurely.
MATT ARRINGTON, 1,117 points
Brett Hankins is the MTQRL’s most recent winner on September 20th at the Shelby County Fairgrounds. Combs and Speidel have combined for the most wins (three each), followed by Hankins and Arrington who have each won a pair. Single features have been won by Tate Martz and Logan Arnold.
If Martz can win on Saturday, he will become the first driver in MTQRL history to compile twenty feature wins. A victory by Speidel will tie Martz atop the all-time winners list with nineteen.
Saturday pit passes are $30 and general admission is $20. All cars are required to pay a $20 entry fee (as per the promoter) and all cars and drivers must be properly licensed and registered with the MTQRL. The MTQRL is offering an end of season special with reduced driver license and car registrations fees ($25 each).
The MTQRL pill draw will be open from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The track has a drivers meeting scheduled for 5:30 pm, followed by practice at 5:45 pm, and racing to immediately follow.
