Just when you think you have seen it all.....

We've all seen cars go out of the park. You know.... over the wall. Well, at Butler the only wall is on the front stretch. The rest of the joint is a berm with a little runoff and then some trees.

Tonight, prior to Doug Zimmerman torturing the 20 car sprint field in the A Main by being in a class of his own, they had a modified go off in a heat in Turn 1 with a stuck throttle. Through the fence it went, onto Clarendon Road, and was headed north the last we saw. Rumor has it there was a big party in Tekonsha and he was invited.

They stopped the traffic on the road and went out and got the bloke and towed him back. He probably had to pay for admission to get back in.

Like I said...... just when you think you have seen it all....

Luckily, no one was hurt. That includes drivers, fans, motorists, and people mowing their lawns on Clarendon Road.

I've been to many races there and seen a few come close to making it to the road, but never saw one make it all the way there before Saturday night.

I would also add a Amish horse drawn cart to the list of things he did not hit.

I would still say my best Butler story was the Doug Wolfgang crash. It was the All-star race they had the weekend before Ohio speedweek. Doug was in the Stanton car. In hot laps he crashed with a local crap box sprinter. The kid he crashed with did not have his arm restraints hooked up right. As the kid was flipping with Wolfgang, his belts came undone. He flipped/fell out of the winged sprint car and landed on the track. After a few secs of laying on the track. He got up, dusted himself off and walked back to the pits. No worst for wear.

TJ and I were at the Butler show when the kid flew out of that car. Wolfgang chewed on that kid big time for not having good safety equipment. I talked to Wolfgang at a book signing two years ago and mentioned that deal, and he remembered the whole thing very well. It was a scary sight for sure.

Who was the guy about 10-12 years ago in either a SOD or GLOSS race that flipped a sprinter in Turn 2 and wound up hung up in a tree? They towed that one out the back side of the track and down Clarendon Road back to the pits.

There was a neon orange #2 that went through the woods, Mike said he closed his eyes & when he opened them there were some kids standing on a porch. They waved said, "Hi mister", Mike was pushed across the yard then towed back up Clendon Rd, had to find someone w/ a key to open the pits. TJ Slideways had a photo of it on his sight
