I have a mini sprint with a midget front end (sanders spindles, and 6-pin hubs- a little older stuff), that I am having trouble fitting a left front brake to.
As you can see in my pictures below I am having an interference issue between my caliper and wheel center (A). Ignore the tape, it was initial on with the wheel and tire to see where I was hitting.
I must be missing an offset part of some kind? If its the wheel center it would need to be offset by a total of 2.5" and couldn't interfere with the bottom of the caliper which lies on a diameter about 7.0". I don't think they even make a center like this?
Second thought, a friend recalls older midgets having an offset rotor. Similar in form to our passenger cars offset style. I belive mod's and / or hobby stocks run something like this called a rotor hat? Anyone familiar with a midget version? If so, are they still even available?
My third guess, is it just a different caliper needed (i.e.- smaller).

You need to run spacers in between your rotor and the hub. A part such as http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Hex-Br...-Inch,643.html is what you need. This moves the rotor away from the wheel center. You then need to mount your caliper on the other side of the bracket and will probably have to mount the bracket in between the spindle and the arm to get everything to lineup correctly.

You need a caliper bracket that mounts to your spindle, where the arm bolts on, that will get you the clearance, or most of it, that you need to clear the wheel, you'll need to measure the bolt spacing where the arm mounts to the spindle, and either order one that fits, or as in some cases, fab one. On second thought, it looks like you have the bracket on there I was refering to, but the caliper looks awfully wide, I can't get to mine right now, but I believe it is a thinner unit than what you have. Hmm! Bob

The red devil version of that caliper is a hair under .25" thinner. Might help a little.

I think I see the problem, maybe. Looks like you have the brake mount on the inside of the ears on the spindle, it should be between the arm and the ears, that will move the caliper inboard, the spacers/nuts that Geoff is refering to, go on the backside of the hub, they screw on the threaded end of the pins, that come thru the hub, then the rotor bolts to them, moving your caliper and rotor in about 2". Clear as mud, right? Bob

thanks for all your help guys! i mocked this up tonight with a stack of washers (1.063" thk total), and moved the caliper to the other side of the spindle. looks like it will all line up just right, and clear the center. time to order or turn down the proper spacers.

funny how i could not see this (at all) the other day.... extra eyes and knowledge wins again!

Sounds like you've figured it out, when/if you order those nuts, make sure you get the correct ones, midget and sprint take different sizes, your's should be 1/2", they just screw on what sticks thru the hub from your pins, then the rotor, with flat head bolts, bolts the rotor to the hub, might need to buy them at the same time. You can always use the other three holes in your hub face, depends on what size the holes are, some are threaded 3/8, some 7/16, some 1/2, depends on what the last guy did. Bob
