(Perris, CA, September 1, 2012) Three former champions, Damion Gardner, Cory Kruseman and Chris Windom, are among the first entries to come in for the prestigious 17th annual Budweiser Oval Nationals on November 2nd and 3rd at Perris Auto Speedway. The race will feature the final two nights of full point paying races for the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series and the Amsoil USAC/CRA Series. The PAS Senior Sprints and the California Lightning Sprint Cars will be in action both nights as well. Gardner, who first burst onto The PAS scene ten years ago at the 2002 season opener for the SCRA series, has had a phenomenal record in the Oval Nationals the past three seasons with two wins and a second place finish. In 2009, the Concord, California native who now lives in Pittsboro, Indiana, won his first Oval Nationals when he beat Temecula's Mike Spencer and Olney, Illinois native Levi Jones to the Eddie Ramirez checkered flag. In 2010, Gardner, who goes by the nickname "The Demon," took second in the prominent race to rising Canton, Illinois driver Chris Windom. Last November, in a replay of 2009, Gardner bested Spencer and Jones again to garner his second Oval Nationals Budweiser White Eagle Trophy. Since 2007, Gardner, who also has a 2008 win in the famous Chili Bowl Midget Nationals, has contested the USAC National Sprint Car Series that is based in Indiana. He is ranked sixth in points this year with wins in Ocala, Florida and Port Royal, Pennsylvania. Tony Stewart Racing had entered Levi Jones in the 17th running of the Budweiser Oval Nationals, but the 5-time USAC National Sprint Car champion is undergoing season ending surgery on Tuesday to repair to herniated disks in his neck. On Friday, the team announced that Windom, 21, would be replacing Jones while he recuperates. Windom finished second to Jones in last year's USAC National Sprint Car championship point standings. Currently 11th in USAC National points, Windom, who won one of the Oval Nationals preliminaries last year, has wins in the series this season at Minersville, Pennsylvania and Kokomo, Indiana. Tony Stewart Racing already has two wins in the Budweiser Oval Nationals. Those victories came when Cory Kruseman was driving for it and won the race back-to-back in 2003 and 2004. The soon to be 42-year-old Ventura, California resident drove the bright yellow Mark Priestly #7 to the win at the last USAC/CRA race at The PAS on August 18th. That victory gave him 49 total wins on the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval which is more than any other driver (Rip Williams is second with 47). Last year Kruseman won the USAC Western Midget championship. That title, along with his two Oval Nationals triumphs, joins a long victory ledger that also includes the 2006 USAC/CRA award, 2000 & 2004 Chili Bowl championships, 2002 & 2005 Indiana Sprint Week crowns, 2001 SCRA title, 1999 Non Wing World Championship, 2005 & 2006 Western World 360 championships and the 1991 USAC TQ Midget crown. Thus far the closest local entry is from Riverside, California resident "Dynamite" David Cardey. The veteran 36-year-old star's racing future looked cloudy at the beginning of the 2012 campaign, but his recent teaming with owner's Tom and Lauri Sertich and the famous Moose Racing #92 has rejuvenated his career. In his last two outings at The PAS, Cardey has steered his new ride to second and third place finishes on July 28th and August 18th. Cardey first came to open wheel prominence in 2003 when won 13 main events and the California Lightning Sprint Car championship. On his birthday in 2008, Cardey won an Oval Nationals preliminary main event in what many still call the greatest race in the history of the track. The other two entries to come in thus far came from Bakersfield, California's Rusty Carlile and longtime veteran Jim Richardson from Gaeagle, California. Known as the "Bakersfield Bullet," Carlisle is a regular in the USAC West Coast 360 series where he is currently ninth in points. The biggest win of the 50-year-old driver's career came at the 2009 Cotton Classic at Hanford. Richardson, who does most of his racing with a wing on top in Northern California, has a 2012 season best 5th place finish at Marysville Raceway Park on August 11th.
