Jacksonville Speedway and Budweiser are pleased to announce a huge event to kick off the start of the 2012 racing season in Jacksonville, Illinois. On April 27th, the speedway will host the Lucas Oil POWRi National Midget Series as a part of a “Dirt Road To Indy” celebration. The event will be a send-off for 2012 Indy 500 hopeful Bryan Clauson, just prior to the start of his month of May journey in Indianapolis. Also in action on Friday the 27th will be 410 winged sprints, POWRi 600cc Outlaw Micros and Street Stocks. The POWRi midgets will be co-sanctioned by the Badger midget series which should result in a huge field of participants.
But prior to a great Friday of racing action, Jacksonville will play host to a golf outing and dinner on Thursday to pay tribute to Clauson and area racing legends who have found their way to compete in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. The 9 hole golf outing, hosted by Greg and Kim Stewart, will be held at the Jacksonville Links golf course on Thursday April 26th beginning at 2:00pm and will give friends and area race fans a chance to celebrate and show their support of Clauson’s Indy effort in a relaxed and fun environment. Thursday’s dinner will feature speakers, videos and other entertainment highlighting both Clauson’s journey as well as area dirt track legends that have followed the Dirt Road to Indy.
Jacksonville Speedway is among the best open wheel bullrings in the Midwest and the POWRi Midget races in recent years have not disappointed. Add 410 Winged Sprint Cars, Outlaw Micros, the extremely competitive Jacksonville Street Stocks, the planned Indy related festivities, along with the chance to watch a champion try to tame the Jacksonville dirt within weeks of charging his way across the Indianapolis yard of bricks and it promises to be an incredible night of action.
Jacksonville Mayor Andy Ezard is excited for the City to play host to the race and surrounding events. “The speedway is an important part of our community and any time we get a chance to remind people that some of the same racers they root for on TV can be seen racing in any given week here in Jacksonville, it’s a good thing for the City”, said Mayor Ezard. “I was on hand for Bryan’s midget win in September and plan to be back again on the 27th to see if he can repeat against some of the best drivers in the Country before starting his Indy journey. We look forward to hosting 2 days of fun events with many great racers and fans. ”

Wish I had a dollar for every time I ever watched Chuck Weyant race !!
I also saw a guy called Danny Burke, who looked just like Chuck (I think Danny was from Pocatello, ID), occasionally drive at local tracks in the late '60s
