Richard L. Greenawalt 7-4-1940 to 7-5-2011 age 71 was a resident of Lancaster, Pa his entire life. My father and mother were together 48 years in marriage and had one son. He was a proud member of the United States Air Force in the early 60’s. Dick is Survived by his wife Carol, son Lee and daughter- in- law Margaret.

"Dick " as my dad was known, loved auto racing and passed that love to me. He captured pictures of Sprints, Modifieds, Late models, Micro Sprints, T.Q.’s, Super Modifieds, Midgets, and Stock cars, you name it dad has a picture of it.

My father enjoyed watching races at first, the photography came later. My first memories of racing are going to Hershey stadium in Hershey Pa. with dad and mom to see midget races, then Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway (Lanco) in Brickerville, Pa. to see micro midgets, now know as micro sprints, then Williams Grove Speedway for sprints and late models and so on.

The first track that dad got to take pictures from the infield was at Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway better known as Lanco. The announcer Steve Buch asked dad if he'd like to shoot there, and dad was hooked, this was about 1971. Dad also helped work on the track at Lanco too.

1972 dad then got connected with the Illustrated racing paper and shortly after that become the Official Photographer for the URC sprint club which took him all over the north east.

In the early 80's dad started at Williams Grove Speedway with promoter Jack Gunn to become one of their track program photographers. He also was a photographer for Area Auto Racing News.

Then the 1991 dad came back to Lanco as their Official Photographer, which is where he worked till he passed way. He loved that track and the people that were part of it.

Dad traveled to race tracks in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Vermont, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia to cover racing.

He is a member of EMPA.

Other publication’s dad worked for were: Open Wheel magazine and Stock Car magazine.

He worked for and was a member of the Checkered Flag Fan Club in the 70's and 80's.

On June 25th 2011 at Lanco dad didn't feel very well, he finished the nights racing, Sunday morning at 4am mom took him to the emergency room at the Lancaster General Hospital, Monday morning surgery was done, he stayed in the hospital that week and was sent home on July 4th his birthday, he had a good dinner with mom that day, had a birthday treat with his family that evening, Tuesday morning he passed away suddenly at home.

Dad's wishes were, no funeral, no memorial service and cremation, and then take his ashes back to the place that he loved, the Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway, and that's what will be done.

Mom and I want to thank all the Friends, Drivers, and Fans for all the kind words, messages, prayers, and thoughts over this past week. It really shows how much everyone loved my dad. We ask that instead of flowers, please make a donation to an injured drivers fund with your local racing clubs. That’s what he would have wanted.
