I'm glad that they were able to come to an agreement. With the change over for 2012 they really need one constant and the tires provides the foundation to implement these changes.

Everybody seems to think this is great - me included - except for the guys that will be paying the tire bills starting next year. It just about doubled according to RM's story.

Sounds like the owners all came together and really wanted this even if it cost more.

As for costing more, look at it like this. If you have a bunch of crash damage because of tire failure, it will cost more in the end. So paying a little more for proven tires might save money overall. Firestone hasn't had a tire blow because of failure in construction in about 15 years. Worth a little more coin.

Gregg,

There is an unknown factor in this whole thing as well. No one knows what the other tire manufacturers would have been charging for an unknown product. The owners seem to be behind this so I hope it does work out for the teams and Firestone.
